Baby Cousin turned eight on Sunday, and so - to accommodate her birthday plans - she came to stay on Friday night. I picked up some pizza, and there have been a slate of animated films on the BBC recently, so we watched Bolt which was about a dog that stars in a TV series but doesn't realise he doesn't have superpowers until he's thrown into the real world. Frankly I would have watched the TV series; the scenes where the dog is doing his super bark or whatever were brilliant.

On Saturday, Baby Cousin and I made cupcakes, watched Tangled (which we bought her for Christmas), and then went into town. We went to this new cake shop to see what it was like, then I took her to this massive Antiques place that has been in town for decades. She's never been! It's more of a bric-a-brac, and it's more specialised now than it used to be. There are whole sections for card marking, scrap booking, knitting, vinyl records, jewellery making and so on. We spent a significant amount of time looking at the insane number of beads this place had. Amazing.

Yesterday I started many, many things (Borgen, Die Tür, Nikita, The Brothers Bloom) and failed to get very far with any of them. My concentration was shot. I have been feeling randomly anxious recently, too. It's freaking me out.

Watched Sherlock, and was pleased to see Amelia Bullmore, whom I adore. I don't really have a lot to say about it. spoilers )

I was really into the Major's beard, though.

Speaking of Sherlock Holmes, I saw the second film, and loved Jared Harris as Moriarty. The perfect cruel balance to Downey Jnr's manic Holmes.

I'm at home today because I am going to the dentist. I have needed a dental appointment since 2007 at the least, but haven't had one since my very first when I was about 7? Yeah. The guy is going to be really confused when he sees me, I just know it. And I'm going with The Dad. Oh. Yes. Great.

Okay, I want to finish watching Borgen today. Sidse Babett Knudsen is lovely as Birgitte Nyborg.

I managed to write three fics for Yuletide this year, huzzah! My main/actual fic is You Are Tired which is film-verse Ricki Tarr and Peter Guillam (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), but owes a lot to the BBC miniseries. I actually matched for The Hour but this happened instead. Okay!

I also wrote two fic for Yuletide Madness. The first is A Narration in Lessness (The Killing/Forbrydelsen) which is Sarah Lund and Troel Hartmann in the wake of series 1. Spoilers, so beware. The second was The New Guy (Spooks) which is Tariq and Dimitri's first meeting. I think you can probably read it as a prequel of sorts to The Whole Planet &c. as it doesn't directly contradict anything that happens in that fic.

--

I wish there was an option in Yuletide to ask for fics that deal with one-off guest characters in otherwise large fandoms. I know why there isn't but fuck me, I really want someone to write fic about Idris, the woman whose body gets taken over by the TARDIS in Hipster Who. Although, maybe that's the answer to my [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon-shaped question from last year?

I also have another Dimitri/Tariq fic in the works, which I guess is a sequel to The Whole Planet &c. Going to try to get that down and out there before starting on [livejournal.com profile] picfor1000, the assignments for which went out yesterday. I got another interesting picture that I don't know what to do with. Hurrah!

SIGH. Sherlock. A technically intricate ("clever") plot is not the same as a good story. I did enjoy it, and the friendship between Holmes and Watson (and the lovely Mrs Hudson) was as well-done as ever, but as with Hipster Who there was an element of JUST TELL THE STORY FFS.

Oh, god, I am so not into Jay Baruchel.

There is this clicking noise in my wall where there was never a clicking noise before! The Dad thinks there is a nest of some sort in the attic. I am hoping he is going to sort this out before whatever it is burrows through into my room. Some other sort of scratching woke me at 3am, and now I am very tired. My temperature is up, so I can guess what's coming next, and the room is warm anyway, but due to the wasps in the bay, I can't actually open one of my bigger windows. SIGH. God. I just want to sleep properly.

--

I have things to say about Sherlock! Just no real time. The non-spoilery version: a) I found it thoroughly enjoyable; b) I don't think it was terribly consistent across the three episodes.

--

I am having trouble using the new tags on eljay, guys, like...a lot of trouble! I dislike anything that ends in me having to use the mouse, basically. I thought I'd be able to adapt but apparently I am just that inflexible. It makes me woeface.

--

Boy Cousins left on Sunday; Gran arrived. Also, The Sister has a cold and better not have given it to me if she has any sort of desire to live.

--

I am just hot and cranky, I guess. Which is no different to usual. Other than I am not normally so hot.

delga: ([spooks] cigarettes & teacups.)

Yeah, I pretty much loved all of Sherlock. So sue me.

Guys, one day - ONE DAY - I will write my epic Ros post. One day I will cohere my every thought on the character and then just be done with the thinking of it all. One day I will be able to just let shit go.

Until that day: meta on tumblr? Why yes, I will.

--

Alternatively, I could write this goddamn femgen fic and put it all in there instead? Pffft. Too easy.

--

Tomorrow is Monday again. I...I should have taken tomorrow off. I have more than enough flexi to do it without dipping into my leave. But I am thick, like a plank, and I didn't think ahead. I'll take Friday instead, but that will probably be too late. STUPID.
