Yeah, I pretty much loved all of Sherlock. So sue me.

Guys, one day - ONE DAY - I will write my epic Ros post. One day I will cohere my every thought on the character and then just be done with the thinking of it all. One day I will be able to just let shit go.
Until that day: meta on tumblr? Why yes, I will.
--
Alternatively, I could write this goddamn femgen fic and put it all in there instead? Pffft. Too easy.

Tomorrow is Monday again. I...I should have taken tomorrow off. I have more than enough flexi to do it without dipping into my leave. But I am thick, like a plank, and I didn't think ahead. I'll take Friday instead, but that will probably be too late. STUPID.

Mad Men omg!

Date: 2010-07-30 04:43 pm (UTC)Extract:
Sherlock’s eyes light up like gunfire, and John hears warning sirens in his laugh.
‘Angles, that’s it!’ He bolts up from the table. ‘John, you’re a genius. Well, actually, I’m a genius.’ He lunges out of the room for his coat and scarf. ‘We need to get to Waterloo right now.’
‘Really?’ John darts a pleading look at his tea. ‘I’ve had a long day, I was just going to put my feet up-’
Sherlock steps back into view in the doorway. ‘I promise you there’ll be danger,’ he says, tantalising. ‘I’d even advise you to bring your gun, you might have to use it.’ He settles his hands on John’s shoulders and leans in, grinning wickedly. ‘It will all be highly illegal.’
‘You shouldn’t be excited about that,’ John mutters.
‘Neither should you.’
‘I’m not excited.’
‘And yet,’ Sherlock says, reaching the door, ‘you’re coming.’

Date: 2010-07-25 11:42 pm (UTC)In 8x03, I think Ros sees a version of herself - a self she could have been - in Nina.

Date: 2010-07-26 05:41 am (UTC)At the end of the day, I think she pretty much just wants to get people out of that bunker without them dying, and Nina is the weak point. What she does to Nina is essentially what Adam &c do to her in 5x02, except where Nina is riding her fear, Ros took control of her situation and...handed her father in for treason.
Something you said to me yesterday - that she probably grew up with revolutionary ideas in her house - I think is only half true. I think, first and foremost, her father was a businessman, so she understands being cut-throat in a very, very collected manner. (I always love that line she has about how her father used to think she was afraid of everything, because she's clearly Daddy's Little Girl. I don't think she had to fight for his attention or affection, but I think she wanted those things and pushed for them anyway; wanted him to be proud.) I think a lot of her political ideology stemmed from Jack Colville, and then an unknown third party (her mother? Maybe?)
I AM GOING TO MISS MY BUS SO AM LEAVING NOW. But. My point is, whilst I think we can make the connection and say, okay, Ros at some point denied the route that leads to Nina, I don't think Ros is conscious of it. I think we see a version of what Ros could be, but she never physically realises it (because Nina is being led on by a lover, and Ros was led on by her father, and other stuff I am late).

Date: 2010-07-26 06:00 am (UTC)To be clear: Nina is an AU Ros, but Ros never consciously makes that connection. That's...that's basically how I feel about Nina. That she's set up as one of those barriers that Ros overcomes in s8, but she's not as direct as Colville. And then, you know, Jo happens.
Oh god, Ros is basically a Sophoclean tragedienne.
(From where I sit on the bus, I can see the dashboard. There is a very loud high pitched whine emanating throughout the bus - annoying - and a HUGE red light flashing 'stop'. Um. We haven't stopped. (I am going to miss my train.) Hello, Monday.)
Anyway, the difficulty with Ros meta is that I can't stay focussed and end up trying to talk about the three kinds of ladyspook.

Date: 2010-07-26 01:34 pm (UTC)OMG ROS META YAY.
CROSSOVER Y/Y? (no, self! Stop fucking thinking about it, at least until you get a new computer!)
I really have to rewatch Edukators and make that post about how it compares to 803.

Date: 2010-07-26 01:42 pm (UTC)(I will save most of it for when I know the answer, but Sugarhorse makes sense? Rly? It always disappointed me how a) the Russians had a network that *worked* (see Qualtrough, Connie) and that Harry can and does send a bunch of innocent people to their deaths by naming them as Sugarhorse agents AND THEN HE JOKES ABOUT IT)
(alright, that's a bit off the point, but I find it increasingly difficult to think of Harry as in any way sympathetic after series 7)
Maybe when i am up to date with the recaps I will make a giant post called The Plot Holes of Spooks. And no-one will read it.

Date: 2010-07-28 04:36 pm (UTC)Is the Sugarhorse question re:something on tumblr? Lol, I am confused, and also I missed this comment.
Except for me. And then we will talk ourselves round and round in circles. \o/
