As it turns out, I haven't written up the post on The Wire yet so instead you get more on Grace Hanadarko and her angel named Earl.

This week's episode is about Grace and her priest brother; the case was actually more of a forward point, so I remember what happened. A maid calls in the murder of her boss, a manager of a motel. Eventuall it transpires that the maid herself had something to do with the crime, but she invokes the right of sanctuary in the local church. In other news, there's a new captain, an old friend of Grace's (from Vice?), Grace's nephew is prepping for his first kiss, and the show gives us more of an inkling regarding Grace's fallout with religion.

Now, I'm fairly certain that it was underscored in the pilot that there was some history of sexual abuse with Grace, but I don't know if it was supposed to be obvious or throwaway. Which is why, when I watch these episodes (1x02, 1x03) I don't really know if the dialogue is referring back to the pilot, or we're supposed to be guessing at what happened with Grace. This week it's obvious that if there was a case of abuse, the only person who knows about it is her best friend whose name I still don't know. Grace brings up the mention of Catholic churches hiding pedophiles, too, so I don't know what we're supposed to think. Her final conversation with Earl is a no-go: she wants to ask him if God is punitive (a question rhetorically put forward by The Lab Tech/Best Friend). In which case, the question she may be wanting to ask is was I hurt because I did something wrong?

The new captain is a woman who apparently knew Grace some time pre-pilot. She has a thing against UT, and is more about politics than Grace. She tells Grace not to go near the doors of the church; Grace breaks in through a window. You have to love her.

It was a good episode, fun, as always, a little heavy with the religious icons this time but that's expected. Would have liked a bit more of Grace and Ham, but the latter is apparently trying to show mutual respect to his wife by getting home by 11pm. That doesn't stop him from dropping in at Grace's for a quickie before headng house-ways.

Random: does anyone know what the name of the fourth cop on the team is? He has long hair which he ties back. Anyone?

To conlude: there was no nudity this week, although Grace, I think, tries to embarass her brother a lot. Examples include dressing in front of him and folding her underwear in front of him.

Trying to sort out the rss/atom feeds. Not going so well. Begging for patience, please.
