{ don't pay no mind. }

So, theoretically The Dad is on his way here. Of course, I wouldn't know that because he didn't call before he left. This time last year, he got here at 11am which is just under 20 minutes away. That's why I'm sitting here with my cupboards empty, things in boxes and bags, and my clothes in piles all over a stripped bed. That's also why I'm watching 3 Lbs. Stanley Tucci should not seem so attractive.

I don't really know what my plans are. I need to finish my pr/ce course when I get home, sort out all of this year's notes, do my preparatory reading for my dissertation and try and get my hands on texts for next year. I need to sell this year's books, as well as the remainder of last year's, and I need to get a job. Some time this summer, I'm supposed to be learning how to drive which is a new form of terror I am about to be subjected to.

So, whoever tried to advertise 3 Lbs as a microcosm of House was invariably an idiot because the more I see this show, the less that's what it is. I don't give a shit that Hanson can be a superior ass - he's a fucking neurosurgeon. If there's one thing 12 years of ER and 3 years of Grey's have taught me, it's that TV surgeons are arrogant.
Other reasons why this show should have been given a greater chance than it received: Hanson's relationship with his daughter (no, that wasn't a 'cest pull; I have not ventured to the dark side yet); INDIRA VARMA being pretty, witty and wise; the general array of male cast; the shiny set; the approachable nature of the plot. It's not as formulaic as House or CSI; it's not a procedural drama at all, really. It's not a drama like ER or Grey's though it ventures there at times. In fact, it's light-hearted, though at turns melodramatic; it has the same appreciation for its genre as Raines does for its own. I don't think it was a keeper, but it definitely made sense as a one-season, a mini-series. Hanson's arc could have been pulled out across 13 episodes and everyone would have been happy.

As disappointed as I am by the Raines cancellation - and I really feel that this is a show that could have run a couple of seasons - it cut off in an appropriate place so I don't feel too wronged. That said, it would have been nice to see the repercussions of someone catching Michael in the act, so to speak. Whatever: it ran for something like 7 episodes, was good fun to watch and had a small, but manageable arc. I miss it, but that's that.
