Today has been kind of ridiculous, but in a totally excellent way. I spent the morning at the Community Centre with K, and between the two of us we managed to get up to speed on the admin. We also managed to empty an in tray which Quasi-Boss avoids as much as possible. K is totally lovely, about SK's age, and was fun to be around whilst we sorted through the detritus.
At around 11.30am we set off for the local hotel which is a nice place to have lunch/drinks/whatever; we met QB there, and A. A is a hilariously miserly fellow who is actually great to be around. We sat around for a couple of hours, drinking tea and talking, and generally being a bit daft. A told me that my post-grad plan should have been to become an assassin (idk) and his big theory that the Centre is actually an underground hub for such dealings. (Computers by day, killers by night? Again: idk.) As it turns out, K is a massive Spooks fan so we spent about 15 minutes discussing the latest season in great detail. \o/
We headed back to the Community Centre - QB and A in the car (ridiculous because it's all of 5mins away) and K and I on foot. We got there first, but that was because the road into the Centre was inaccessible*. K left, and then I spent the afternoon sorting out various bits and pieces with QB whilst A helped a gentleman out with some other nonsense. We had a birthday celebration/coffee morning on Wednesday during which we sold raffle tickets, and I drew the winners today. I love leaving people prize information on their answerphones, lols. So: that was entirely delightful.
On my way out I stopped to speak to the volunteer at the reception desk and, as most conversations in that place do, we veered onto the subject of my parents. I just spoke to The Mother and apparently this lady (who won second prize, actually, lols) talked to her later this evening and told her that I was lovely. This is one of the perks of working with the 60+ age bracket: they're a bit gossipy but for the most part they are entirely wonderful people. ♥

*) Sad part of the story: the road was closed off by the police because a motorbike collided with a car. The woman in the car died. There was also an accident last night: a 14-year-old girl was also killed. It's been that sort of week, really. A lot of that going around.

Tonight I will no doubt be up into the wee hours trying to finish my Yuletide fic. As it turns out, I don't really have writing-appropriate music, but I think Basia Bulat will do. Well. I hope so, anyway.
