Today I spent the whole day at the community centre. I say 'all day' but it's not really a 9-to-5 gig. In the morning session I helped a woman to navigate her word processor, and then I helped her to download and set up Thunderbird so that she can access her email without having to tackle her nightmare email interface. I also started designing a 'details' card so that we can start offering a service that helps people sign up for an email account, and sync their mail service with their computers/laptops.

After lunch I spent a couple of hours with a woman who was trying to get to grips with her Mac computer but didn't know where to start. We managed to get her using the internet/Safari, and I sent her to Apple's support/Mac tour pages before talking to her about things like Finder and so on. Super basic stuff, naturally, as I've never touched a Mac computer.

To that end, dear Mac users, could some of you help me out? I need some screen shots of things like the email client, the compose/write section of the client, and Finder, as well as the 'shut down' options (sleep etc.) Let me know if you can. I'd be extremely grateful.

During lunch I went to see Baby Cousin and got roped into a babysitting tomorrow night, and on Sunday I have to cover a shift at the store whilst The Dad goes to a memorial service.

I am a volunteering machine, obviously.

I just updated my CV with the work I've been doing this past month, and I'm hoping it helps. It's a shame that my volunteer position isn't a paid one because the work is great. Of course, I'm not really doing a lot, so it's not really wage-worthy work. Hmm.

Completely unrelated: I am trying to decide whether or not planning a 'trip' for June 2009 is a great idea or a terrible one. Or maybe both? Hmmm. HMMMM. I don't even know any more.

In the Utilities folder of Applications, there's a screencapping program called Grab.

Ah, thank you. I phrased that poorly: what I'm actually looking for is screen shots of the things that I listed.

If you go up to the upper left corner of an Apple computer, there is a little apple symbol. Click on that and you can see sleep, restart and shut down. If you just click there, you will find it's insanely much easier than a PC. There is a mail application on Macs for mail, but you need to set it up to an already-in-use email account (such as you can use it with your AOL account). The icon should be in the applications folder called "Mail", or it's on the dock (the bar where there are applications). But like I said, the mail application is only for already-existing email accounts. You can't take screen shots of things like Finder because they are always in existence when you turn on your computer.

Yeah, I know where these things are, and the woman using the mail client already has it set up, I need to see images of the set up, though.

Thanks for the help, either way.

*rereads* And I skimmed! Too bad I'm only on my iPhone this weekend, otherwise I could help!

What would be useful is if I were to join the technological future and actually get my hands on a Mac, lols.

Hey, you had turkey-related shenanigans this week, I think? *insert goodwill here*
