Merlin, 1x03, The Mark of Nimueh

Did y'all see the Serious Eye-Contact in the scene where Arthur's convincing the King that Merlin's got a jonesing for Gwen? (And could I have phrased that more offensively? lols. Sorry; I watched this with The Mother and The Sister, and the whole thing was a farce.) For two people who supposedly aren't all that big on each other, they spend a lot of screen time locking gazes.

The Sister and I would also like to know what the hell's going on with Morgana, and whether or not the show's going to talk about the supposed familial connections between her and Arthur, or just bring about some surreptitious incest (which isn't far from the literature on the subject anyway). Also: Nimueh? (Michelle Ryan failed to be of interest; all she did was stroke a pool of water. I hope her role improves. Especially since she's supposed to be a link to The Lady of the Lake.)

Do you know who I completely love, though? GWEN. She is so lovely! And so... I get sad that she's so apologetic because she's really quite darling.

Mostly, though, please boys, eye-fuck away. (Gosh, could they be more adorable? The scene when they fight the Whatever was hilarious. Oh, show.)

True Blood, 1x05, Sparks Fly Out

WHAT WHAT WHAT NOT GRAN. I didn't see that coming even for a moment. Goshdarnit! What's with killing off all the likeables?!

This week the story seemed to slow down a bit, and Sam continued to become increasingly creepy. Tara and Lafayette's scenes were easily the best for me, and Tara continues to be sheer brilliance. And Jason is a dumbass. Lolarious, out-of-his-nut, full-on dumbass.

I liked the idea behind the meeting but in reality it wasn't too enthralling. I don't normally mind flashbacks, but I thought that Bill's ones were pretty boring, heh. Although I quite liked the story when the older gentleman stepped up to ask about his father. That was nicely done.

Oh, Sookie, your man-troubles are beginning to bore me a little. And Sam is CREEEEPY. Go back to the vampire; you're probably safer there.

BUT GRAN WHAT. !!!!

Mad Men, 2x10, The Inheritance

Ha, Pete is such a wanker. I mean, I know that's the point, but still. Complete wanker! And all those awkward interactions with Peggy are quietly heartbreaking. As, apparently, are any of the scenes in which Joan appears. She continues to be marvellous.

Oh, Birdie. Oh, Birdie. The interactions in her family's house were stifling, and then the bedroom scene was basically the most rending thing of the whole episode. Having Glen reappear, after basically a season's absence, was really interesting, especially as the kid is still the creepiest person on the block. I get that he's lonely, and he mirrors Birdie's dependency issues, but he's also A KID and all HAND-HOLDY.

In conclusion: Hildy! Marvellous.

The Unit, 4x02, Sudden Flight

People: it is time that we put our hands together for Sergeant Medawar (the lady sergeant who backs up Colonel Ryan). That woman is fierce, and I wish she'd been the addition to the team instead of someone brand new. But hey, now we have TWO kickass lady sergeants (three if you include Col. Ryan's other lady sergeant helper.)

(Still haven't seen the post-Hector season 3 episodes. Still doesn't matter.)

I was ironing whilst watching this, so I wasn't wholly invested in what was going on. I think the relocation story is dumb, and goes against the point of the show completely. I felt sharply for Kim, but I'm getting a bit tired of seeing scenes where she flings herself at Bob. Molly and Bridget(te) were both wonderful, with Molly being especially lovely. It's a shame Sullivan hasn't had much to do yet; her scene with Gerhardt was pretty good, all things considered. I like that she shut him down.

The events on the plane weren't all that suspenseful, but I love seeing the men being resourceful - Bob running around like a crazy, Jonas and the light fixture, Charles and the makeshift radio. Great stuff. The plot was pretty lame, but I liked it all the same. And I love Charles, so. Bob's ability to fly just about anything continues to be hilarious to me.

I don't even want to talk about what a fuck up Tiffy continues to be. God, woman, just bugger off already. (Random: did you know that the Gerhardt sisters are sisters in real life?)

Californication, 2x02, The Great Ashby

In bullet points:

  • Callum Keith Rennie! Again! Smashing.
  • Dear Karen, please, please, please don't do a one-eighty now. THAT WOULD BE BORING.
  • I must confess to fast-forwarding through scenes that particularly squick me (the masturbation tapes? Heh)
  • I'm not entirely up to speed on the plot, but I think CKR wants Moody to write his bio, yes? Who cares; that's not really why anyone is watching
  • Mia, still a brat! Becca, still brilliant!
  • Oh man, Charlie and Marcy made this week for me. You're not supposed to do that! Fuck yes.

I get to a point during most episodes where I'm wondering why I'm watching. And then something ridiculously funny happens, and I remember. But this show balances a weird line between shit and genius.

The Sister is really busy right now which sucks for her, but also for me because I kind of want to marathon Life with her and she (natch) won't let me. That said, The Rents and I watched Criminal Minds, 3x01 last night (the college campus killings; Gideon's dumbass letter voiceover) which was marvellous. And Emily said: When you move around a lot, you get used to being what people want you to be and I thought, oh, Emily.

Oh yeah, I think they've been hedging towards Sam for a while now. (He is CREEEEPY.) Oh, Gran! As soon as Sookie got home I got all oh please no about the situation.

I just want the character to leave, or do something other than be stuck in the same storyline she's had since day 1. Enough, yo. Take control already.

Ah, I didn't know you'd been watching! I'm waiting for the 3rd episode; very excited, huzz!

merlin and arthur can be more adorable, and i bet they will be in future eps. btw, re nimue, i have the disgusting suspicion she's supposed to be arthur's mom or something (based on the way not-giles reacted to her name).

re: Nimueh, ugh, really? I thought she was supposed to be the reason why magick was banned in Camelot? That would be terrifically sadface. (She could turn out to be Morgana's mum. That would make a modicum more sense.)

well, not for sure, just a vibe i could. actually, the morgana angle sounds more reasonable. but in any case, not-giles totally tapped that.
