Dear LJ, This weekend I rediscovered knitting.

--

So yesterday morning I was ready to go to work at The Dad's store but it turned out he only needed me for errands and my camera. The Mother and I went to the bank, I helped a customer take her groceries home, and then The Dad and I went to the local Tesco to take down the art display (re: Rotary Youth Art Project). We took photos of the display, then of the manager with the display (he was arsey about it until we told him the photos were for the press), then we spent a good forty-five minutes trying to take white tack off the wall and off the pictures. When we got home, I put the pictures on the computer for The Dad and wrote emails for him. Because this is what I do when I'm local: play PA.

In the afternoon I watched a good six hours or so of Lost whilst knitting. My knitting is subpar because I only just learned out to purl, and sometimes when I get to the end of the row I have, like, three extra stitches? So my eventual knit keeps increasing. I'm only messing around right now, though, to see what happens when I put different stitches together. During a moment of genius, I knotted together my existing wool (pink) with a new ball (black) and now there are two colours. I'm sure there's a much more sophisticated way of doing that but as I'm only knitting to give my hands something to do, it doesn't really matter.

re: Lost, now that I've adjusted to the sudden modern spin of the second season, I'm really into it, and I've been rushing through. I just watched Sayid's episode; am about to start again for today (although I also have New Amsterdam to watch. Some time today I'm going to have to start reading Tortilla Curtain again, and Middlesex, too. Need to get some discipline going, what ho) and what I'm really liking is how people keep turning up in other people's stories. (I pegged Shannon's connection before we saw her episode, so now it's a game, obvs.)

Wearing your hair in two plaits/braids = probably kooky, but good for your hair. I used to wear my hair like this all the time in secondary school. Now that I think about it, it's a wonder that I didn't get teased, but then, my friend wore hers in two pigtails until we were 16, so I guess it wasn't so big a deal. It's just so practical! And my hair, though it has those plait-kinks, has also started behaving (less frizz, fewer knots). Small victories and all that.

Yeah, there's a reason why I didn't post yesterday: nothing happened.

I'll admit, I kind of wear my hair in plaits still now *sheepish grin* Stopped after I got the shorter hair cut but now it's growing I do it again, because it is so nice and easy :)

(And I'm watching YouTube previews. Mostly Life but also Spooks trailers. And not avoiding spoilers, because at this point I'm not sure I'm ever going to get series 5 and 6).

I don't feel sheepish about it - I know it's an antiquated hairstyle but it's just convenient, and like I said, it wasn't exactly odd in my group of friends. And my hair is a pain in the back end, so.

Well, I sent the disk off yesterday, so you should get it in a week :)

1. It's definitely good for annoying hair, is plaits (I think I was an oddity because I had long hair - most of my friends had really short hair)

2. Yay Life and Damien Lewis drooling opportunities. You are a very good friend, you know :)

I love to wear my hair in braids and pigtails, but I need someone else to work my hair for me since I can't braid on my own. I miss wearing it in pigtails the most; apparently a 23 year old should not be putting her hair up like that anymore.

I love reading about your knitting adventures. I gave up my knitting experiment because I don't have enough time to concentrate on it. Keep going and keep counting those stitches.

I have difficulty doing a single plait (as evidenced by my epic FAIL during my post-shower rituals this evening. I, uh. Ended up on my ass? Yeah, ouch) but two is okay because I just centre-part it and away we go.

apparently a 23 year old should not be putting her hair up like that anymore.
Which... PFFT. I will never understand why one tail is supposed to be more sophisticated - it's not like it's any more practical. BE FREE, LEY! FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!

Aw! My knitting adventures are apparently yielding... bi-coloured leg-warmers? WIN.

This comment obviously deserves my "fashion" icon. Kitsch IS cool, yo.

I am imaging you, limbs flailing akimbo, as you try to discipline your hair.

I am totally planning on putting my hair up in two tails sometime in the next week. I shall fight for the right for an "adult" to wear hair in whatever manner they please!

Except for mullets. I do not fight for that.

I love leg warmers and kitsch like that. I'm currently wearing arm warmers that are made of pure liquid win.
