Clarification.
by Franz Wright

Someone once told me about a Buddhist
monk who on awakening

each morning said, "Master!"
Then he would answer

"Yes, master?" And then
in a loud voice demand

"Become sober!"
Listen to what I am saying,

but listen especially
to what I am not saying--

Of all the powers of love,
this: it is possible

to die; which means
it's possible to live.

Now it is possible to die
without being mad or afraid.

I have an exam tomorrow. I don't really want to talk about it until I've done it though, because then I'll be in a better place to judge it. (Mostly: I can't be asked. I like exams, but this is just stupid.)

--

Started season 3 of The Wire earlier this week. !!! Also: am watching a dreadful show called The Net (based on the Sandra Bullock film of the same name) and Tru Calling. It is a shame that Eliza Dushku's voice was ruining her throat. It was much prettier when it was lower. (Still pretty... just was prettier.)

OH BILLY JOEL.

edit: Sad and shocking news: Heath Ledger died. The guy was only 29 28.

Question: when you say "can't be asked", is that an actual expression or is it a typo?

(Her voice changed, what? I used to be friends with someone who was obsessed with Eliza Dushku. Obsessed.)

Poem = wow.

That's an expression. If you can't be asked to do something, it literally means can't be bothered. Idioms, yay. (I normally butcher it and say can't be arsed, a, because it's a play on the sound, and b, because of the phrase 'arsing around' meaning messing about/wasting time.)

(Her voice was quite low but it was ruining her vocal cords so she had to train to speak higher. True story.)

re: poem, YES. At first I was all, HMMM, but it redeemed itself by the second half.

Oh! I only know the arsed/assed variation. Which is what you get when you pick up most of your English from the internet, ha. (Or, internest, as I typed!)

(Oddsauce!)

Hee! I think the original may be arsed, though, because you have to get off your hind to do something? My usual etymological sources are failing me, though. THE INTERNEST. I'm so using that now.

(Oddness, oddness everywhere.)

Yes, because the internet is obviously a hatchling.

THE INTERNEST is where the internet originated from, obviously.

(Oddness ON A STICK.)

I know her from Buffy, obviously, and it turned up on one of the BBC news things back when there was a BBC-based Buffy website, heh.

Tangentially, someone made a documentary film about the Buffy website The Bronze, following the lifecycle of the fan community on that site.

I was all bwuh? Someone made a MOVIE about me and my friends? /blinks/

You think the two are related? That's pretty mind-boggling.

(The whole thing is pretty mind-boggling. !)

Well, EVERYONE is talking about it. So. Possibly? It's happened before, though I can't remember exactly what it was that set it off the last time.
