Haha, so. Gmail keeps showing me this news article which reads "Writers' strike threatens Grammys show" and I consistently misread it as "Writers' strike threatens Germany". Dear Brain, who in the what now? Yeah.

[livejournal.com profile] twincy sent me this song called Dress Me Like a Clown by a band called Margot and the Nuclear So and So's and it is royally SMASHING. It has MUY MUY EXCELLENTE melody and the lyrics are WUNDEBAR. Witness:

you either sing it in key / or run into me / I can fake it as good as you

I still haven't redrafted my whatsits for ExWrit. HUM. Also: I am très excited for Jodhaa Akbaar which looks like it is not standard Bollywood fare whilst also being quite EPIC and STUNNING.

I was going to make a joke about WW2 here, and then I realised that I had got the countries all muddled up, so I will settle for registering my displeasure at everybody in the entertainment industry who is all "nooo the writers strike be stealin' our awards ceremonies". It's like the strike is suddenly threatening something they want, so they're going to make a fuss about it. It only really shows how little they actually cared about the strike to begin with. (I admit, I'm sensitive over this, especially as I read that one of the network chief execs describe the writers as the kids who "want to ruin the prom" for everybody else. Wtf.).

That song is probably not my style at all, but I am intruiged, if only because of the name of it.

A WWII joke was what I thought of the first time my brain decided to play switcheroo with me. Also: yeah, the constant nonsense surrounding the strike BAFFLES me in a Vaguely Irritated sort of way. I mean... "threatens". It sounds like WGA is holding a knife to the Grammys. Which: whatever.

You know, I only just realised, I don't know what sort of music you're into. Other than the bandomish type, but people never like just one kind. ILLUMINATE ME! Then I can share stuff that I think you'll like! And, also, I can talk about music for YEARS.

I was all "the writer's strike attempts to take France!", before I realised that I was (a) thinking of the wrong country, and (b) thinking of the wrong war. Me FTW! \o/!

What I hate, and I apologise for splurging this on your journal even though I've already posted about it elsewhere, is that the organisers of award ceremonies are trying to organise a one-day treaty with the writers, so that the awards ceremonies can go ahead. Under what cracked out logic is that even an acceptable course of action to take?!

I have no idea. I like unique sounds, I guess. Something with a decent beat or rhythm to it. Good lyrics are always a plus. (Case in point: the only two Iron & Wine songs I've found thus far that I can stand the sound of are The Night Descending and Evening on the Ground).

It's money over sense, basically. Which sucks, but is wholly unsurprising.

Well, you must like bands of some sort, yes? Like...ahoy, you like The Killers, yes? BritRock type stuff. Haha, I'm not an Iron and Wine fan, but I'd say they have a unique sound. Dress Me Like a Clown has an excellent bass beat, but it is also mid-way indie. (I'm trying to come up with a comparison and... I can't. Fail!)

Yes, I like The Killers! I also like Brand New, and Take That, but it's very rare for me to find a band where I like all the songs they've made. Hence why, when people ask me what music I like, I tend to stand there going "... um".

I like the idea of that bass beat, but [livejournal.com profile] twincy has uploaded it it for me in another comment, so I suppose I'll work it out when I listen to it.

I hope you can download this on whatever computer you're on right now (your technical whatsits confuse me!):

Margot & the Nuclear So and So's - Dress Me Like a Clown.

On a related note, have you heard of a band called Everybody Else? They're ridiculously excellent, and I think you'd enjoy them. I'm uploading some stuff by them tomorrow, so keep an eye out.

It would be ironic if you were both to listen to those songs tomorrow and think "Well, jesus, that's a load of crap." EPIC FAIL. (NOES, THE PRESSURE.)

Seconding what [livejournal.com profile] delgaserasca said: you deserve a pimp hat. And possibly a cane.

My "technical whatsits" are actually very simple -- this computer can't play sound, iTunes, or open certain kinds of scripts, apparantly. I have to go on my laptop to sort out my music, watch Youtube videos, or go on Facebook.

I have not! I shall keep an eye out for them, thank you very much!

Yes but... why aren't you on your laptop all the time?

Let me/[livejournal.com profile] delgaserasca know what you think of the Clown song, yes? Know we must!

Good question! Because I have yet to find a proper mouse, and using the touchpad drives me up the wall.

Date: 2008-01-20 05:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] twincy.livejournal.com
Well, I second that. I lug my mouse around with me whenever I take my laptop away from my desk. Touchpad = death. Proper mice aren't so hard to come by, though - and they cost virtually nothing. Unless you want something cordless.
