{ Spooks, 6x10. }
Dec. 18th, 2007 10:06 pmYou know, I'm in so much shock right now, I can't tell whether I liked it or hated it. I mean... Jo. First off, her slow spiral was magnificently played, especially in compare to Adam's breakdown a year prior. And secondly: I can't believe they went through with that - it's so fucking gutsy, and I felt like maybe they were going to rib us and not go through it. But holy hell. That was insane. I mean not in a good or a bad way. Just plain insane. (Do we have ANY cast left?)
--
Two things that made me laugh for ages and ages and ages:
- We know the kids are British because they all come with HATS.
- The Venezuelan calling Adam a monkey, lols.
Also: I love Malcolm, Connie and Harry, and I could watch them for forever. I missed Ros, NATCH, but I don't know. I also feel like this episode didn't fit in with the rest of the season. Like, narratively speaking, it didn't fit the cycle. Hmm. Thinky.

Now I just have to wait for all the bitching at
spooky_doings. "OMG, I'M NEVR GONNA WATCH AGAAAAIIIIN. THAT WAS THE LAST. STRAW. EVAAA" and so on. Alternatively, the high-brow establishment in that fandom will probably be appalled or disgusted, or talk about the sensationalisation of violence, like that hasn't been the show's game since, I don't know, THEY BURNED A WOMAN IN FRIED OIL?
Of course, I'm not leaving space for whoever found it dull/ludicrous &c. &c.

Date: 2007-12-18 10:18 pm (UTC)The only main cast member left aside from Harry and Malcolm is Adam now, isn't it? Wow. I was sort of hoping they'd clean house, but I was also hoping he would go. Crazy.

Date: 2007-12-18 10:48 pm (UTC)HERMIONE NORRIS. SHE IS FABBOLICIOUS.

Date: 2007-12-19 10:30 am (UTC)I feel like writing some old school Spooks fanfiction. Except I'm in the middle of this crossover, so that will likely have to wait for a little while. (I re-read our collaboration recently, whilst I recoded it. I really want to edit both that and Hard Liquor, but I lack the patience.)

(also, dear Kudos: thanks for making Jo ace in the episode where you possibly kill her off, you bastards!)
I did enjoy some parts (the monkey line, the kids in the schools, Malcolm, Jo) but other parts were just a bit 'meh'. It didn't really feel like a series end.

Date: 2007-12-19 10:20 am (UTC)(Haha, YES. She was pretty fabulous this week. I love when she's calling Adam on his BS. Scary.)
I felt it did feel like your usual season finale - it just didn't quite feel like it fit with the overall 'regime' of this season. Like, it had no real connection to the Iran story, or to Yalta, or to anything that the series had been building on for the past 9 episodes.
re: the bitching above, that was some half-hearted malice. Half the fun of the comm is other people's reactions. But much like the cast structure on the show, people's reactions are pretty much by rote.

Date: 2007-12-19 02:39 pm (UTC)>>> He has, and he is a lying BASTARD.
So if we can just stretch beyond Adam, it might just be worth it.
>>>If Jo is dead and we lose/destroy Fuckwit Carter as well, then they will only have four characters.
re: Zaf, that is - other than Sam - hands down the worst ending a character has ever been given. Did Jaffrey even want to leave? I've heard nothing.
>>>I really hope he did, because that gives me some little bit of comfort. Slightly worse than Sam’s given how there was an undercurrent of ‘will he return?’, which I bet Kudos would deny.

>>>I KNOW. I really have no idea what the point of the one-mission series was if they were just going to chuck it out at the end!

>>Oh, I know (for example, I know full well that I will be watching next year, Wonder Cock or no). It’s why I stick on LJ and don’t go near the other forums. Although the reactions I’ve seen seem to be pretty restrained.

Date: 2007-12-19 03:26 pm (UTC)It's interesting to see how this fandom changes from one year to the next. I can tell the old faithfuls from the newbies, for example.

Date: 2007-12-19 04:56 pm (UTC)Oh, absolutely. And I think a lot of the newbies from last series/series 4 gave up on us and went off to other forums!
I would say you can tell by the fic, but the amount of fic this series is negligible and I haven't been able to read any of it yet.
I do love seeing comments by people who say stuff like 'this is the first episode I've seen!' when they're talking about series 6. I wonder where they've been, and then I feel old...

Date: 2007-12-19 10:27 am (UTC)Exactly! There's no way she could top that.
I really have nothing to add to your comment, other than: I agree completely. Although you'd probably be much better at torturing Adam. More imagination and all that...

Are you wondering if we give a fock?
'Cause we don't, we really can't
Hope you die and if you don't
Look out!
We'll cook your Wonder Cock! (in a wok)

Also, I feel a 28DL/WL fic is in order, where Adam is Infected and has to get his skull bashed in.

Date: 2007-12-19 02:41 pm (UTC)>>> The reason I cannot bring myself to write Adam being injured in fic is that I would not stop. There would be no plot or point, it would just be about him being injured. Lots.
no subject
Date: 2007-12-19 02:40 pm (UTC)>>>Point. I am torn (as per usual this series) between wanting things to go badly for Adam and wanting things to go well for other people (because of course it is All About Adam, and God knows no-one else can have a crisis without him being involved)
Not because I wouldn't like to see her back, but because it would dilute the impact of that exit. And if you think about it - she will have been the weapon of Adam's demise. He thinks the torture ended with the batons and the threats but this way Jo gets to torture Adam for the rest of time. Damn! That job was meant to be MINE.
>>> But would she? Because he never has to pay for anything, not really. It's always someone else's fault (see ep 9)
