You know, I'm in so much shock right now, I can't tell whether I liked it or hated it. I mean... Jo. First off, her slow spiral was magnificently played, especially in compare to Adam's breakdown a year prior. And secondly: I can't believe they went through with that - it's so fucking gutsy, and I felt like maybe they were going to rib us and not go through it. But holy hell. That was insane. I mean not in a good or a bad way. Just plain insane. (Do we have ANY cast left?)

--

Two things that made me laugh for ages and ages and ages:

  1. We know the kids are British because they all come with HATS.
  2. The Venezuelan calling Adam a monkey, lols.

Also: I love Malcolm, Connie and Harry, and I could watch them for forever. I missed Ros, NATCH, but I don't know. I also feel like this episode didn't fit in with the rest of the season. Like, narratively speaking, it didn't fit the cycle. Hmm. Thinky.

--

Now I just have to wait for all the bitching at [livejournal.com profile] spooky_doings. "OMG, I'M NEVR GONNA WATCH AGAAAAIIIIN. THAT WAS THE LAST. STRAW. EVAAA" and so on. Alternatively, the high-brow establishment in that fandom will probably be appalled or disgusted, or talk about the sensationalisation of violence, like that hasn't been the show's game since, I don't know, THEY BURNED A WOMAN IN FRIED OIL?

Of course, I'm not leaving space for whoever found it dull/ludicrous &c. &c.

I had a feeling Jo was a goner, but dammit. Who killed her? Was it Adam? (I've not actually seen the episode yet, being Canadian, but I'm a spoiler whore.)

The only main cast member left aside from Harry and Malcolm is Adam now, isn't it? Wow. I was sort of hoping they'd clean house, but I was also hoping he would go. Crazy.

RPJ is on his way out, he's been saying so for ages, but who knows? Yeah, Adam kills her; she begs him to so that she doesn't get tortured/raped more by their captors who are the people behind Zaf's death.

Hee. Well, as the mod I try super hard to avoid spoilers in the comm, and we haven't had any this season (yay). I think this season was very good, all things considered, so you have something wonderful to look forward to. Though, yes, you have spoiled yourself, lols.

Yes, I was just about to ask when that was. But I think you possibly have other things to celebrate (re: the novel)?

I feel like writing some old school Spooks fanfiction. Except I'm in the middle of this crossover, so that will likely have to wait for a little while. (I re-read our collaboration recently, whilst I recoded it. I really want to edit both that and Hard Liquor, but I lack the patience.)

Please do write some old school Spooks! I'm having to stay away from writing fanfic because of, yep, the novel and what not. But I'd love to read any fic you write. Hard Liquor was a masterpiece.

Ah. You can find it here (http://delgaserasca.livejournal.com/2001/01/01/) but I feel I should warn you - Tiger's a darling, but it's not that great a read (it's one of the first fics I published on LJ) it needs a lot of editing. Also, I know you didn't warm to Tja and she features heavily.

If she is dead, I quit. Not because of the violence or Adam killing her, or Zaf's truly shitty ending, but because I cannot take any more of Adam angsting over a dead woman. I really can't.

I'll be in denial till next September about this ;)

(also, dear Kudos: thanks for making Jo ace in the episode where you possibly kill her off, you bastards!)

I did enjoy some parts (the monkey line, the kids in the schools, Malcolm, Jo) but other parts were just a bit 'meh'. It didn't really feel like a series end.

But see, I swear RPJ has been harping on about this season is his last. So if we can just stretch beyond Adam, it might just be worth it. re: Zaf, that is - other than Sam - hands down the worst ending a character has ever been given. Did Jaffrey even want to leave? I've heard nothing.

(Haha, YES. She was pretty fabulous this week. I love when she's calling Adam on his BS. Scary.)

I felt it did feel like your usual season finale - it just didn't quite feel like it fit with the overall 'regime' of this season. Like, it had no real connection to the Iran story, or to Yalta, or to anything that the series had been building on for the past 9 episodes.

re: the bitching above, that was some half-hearted malice. Half the fun of the comm is other people's reactions. But much like the cast structure on the show, people's reactions are pretty much by rote.

>>> He has, and he is a lying BASTARD.

So if we can just stretch beyond Adam, it might just be worth it.

>>>If Jo is dead and we lose/destroy Fuckwit Carter as well, then they will only have four characters.

re: Zaf, that is - other than Sam - hands down the worst ending a character has ever been given. Did Jaffrey even want to leave? I've heard nothing.

>>>I really hope he did, because that gives me some little bit of comfort. Slightly worse than Sam’s given how there was an undercurrent of ‘will he return?’, which I bet Kudos would deny.

Isn't Norris back for the next season? Wait. How many characters does that make? I can't actually count. But I'm all for castrating Wonder Cock as soon as possible.

It's interesting to see how this fandom changes from one year to the next. I can tell the old faithfuls from the newbies, for example.

Yes, but as the interview spoiler referred to her as having 'finished filming her scenes', I took that to mean she'd only be in a few episodes. However, in my usual way with Spooks spoilers, I have decided this means 3 episodes and wait to be proved wrong...

Oh, absolutely. And I think a lot of the newbies from last series/series 4 gave up on us and went off to other forums!

I would say you can tell by the fic, but the amount of fic this series is negligible and I haven't been able to read any of it yet.

I do love seeing comments by people who say stuff like 'this is the first episode I've seen!' when they're talking about series 6. I wonder where they've been, and then I feel old...

Adam is apparently dying in a blaze of glory "early in Season 7." Poor RPJ thinks he can carry off a high-powered acting career after that, which on the evidence of his utterly blah performances in anything that wasn't Spooks (from Jane Austen to Stephen Poliakoff), is a Bad Bet, sunshine.

Good point about Adam's endless angst BUT if I were Miranda Raison I wouldn't want to come back because, frankly, how could she EVER top that performance? I mean, EVER? That was one of the best screen exits of all time and, for that reason only, I hope she's gone. Not because I wouldn't like to see her back, but because it would dilute the impact of that exit. And if you think about it - she will have been the weapon of Adam's demise. He thinks the torture ended with the batons and the threats but this way Jo gets to torture Adam for the rest of time. More likely I feel Adam is particularly deserving. (Apparently he only likes new recruits if he's shagged them first, which is why he doesn't take to Kaplan, I imagine. No chance to show him some Wonder Cock.)

I've left a note with Han suggesting we should come up with a list of ways to resurrect Zaf and do away with Adam.

Excellent plan. And, yes, what was that with Kaplan? I mean, fair enough, I sort of wish Ben would close his mouth properly, but he's still better than Adam by about a million miles. The Wonder Cock explains everything, I think. Let's face it, when Jo said that line about "sick incontinent dogs", she was talking about Adam, wasn't she. I'm not even going to bother making that a question.
