Weight, Jeanette Winterson.

The earth was amazed. Earth was always strange and new to herself. She never anticipated what she would do next. She never guessed the coming wonder. She loved the risk, the randomness, the lottery probability of a winner. We forget, but she never did, that what we take for granted is the success story. Th failures have disappeared. This planet that seems so obvious and inevitable is the jackpot. Earth is the blue ball with the winning number on it.

I feel more than a little disappointed that this is mostly irrelevant to my dissertation and thus can't be used.

edit: Fans of Robin Hood (there are a couple of you haunting my flist, yes?) should check out these wonderful icons by [livejournal.com profile] wliberation who has an eye for irony, tragedy, and aesthetics. All good things in someone who likes icons and books. I don't even watch the show and I have snagged my current GIP from her.

I HAVE BEEN ONE FOR EXACTLY THREE HOURS. \o/

Though I skipped that post on my f'list for the time being, wary as I am of being spoilered.

Also: QUOTE. Love.

Also also: nearly finished uploading The Princess Bride for you. I really, really want you to watch it. Use it for procrastination sometime! Probably not today what with your horrendous busy busy busy-ness, but, still.

This book makes me GOOEY on the inside. I love it a lot. There's this whole section about the Earth and the Sea having a fight, an about how if the Earth---

"When my mother threw a plate across the room, the whole world felt the crash."

PLATES! EARTH! TECTONICS!

Aw, you're so kind. I'll have to watch it tomorrow (7k = no time even for QI! sadface)

Haha, fabulous timing on EVERYONE'S parts. Alas, I never got into the show. I feel like I should, because I have long-since loved Robin Hood, but.

ANYWAY. YAYARMS.

I don't know if it would be your thing. It's wildly inaccurate and pretty awful. But there is a lot of pretty and comraderie and outlawness and trees and a sense of adventure and epicness and angst! And pretty! And boxers.

I LOVE IT A LOT REALLY. I don't understand why. I mean, for the reasons listed above, but I am really unreasonably excited.

I used to watch The New Adventures of Robin Hood (which actually SWITCHED ROBINS half-through) and that was HORRENDOUS, but I LOVED it because I was going through a swashbuckling fad. I'm sure I'll find this one genially amusing. I just have to marathon it, is all, because I wouldn't have the patience to watch it week on week.

Well. I love Women's Murder Club an unholy amount so we all have our crosses. lols.
