Oct. 21st, 2007 01:16 pmNumb3rs played a nice bit of symmetry this week. 3x04 was The Mole and Colby's first visible transgression; now 4x04, Thirteen and Colby comes 'home'. I like that a lot.
I also love that we went from Megan and Colby on the balcony in The Janus List, to the rift, to Megan turning to Colby - out of everyone else - to talk about her experiences with the DOJ.

I have circa three writing assigns. due next week and I'm prepared for a sum total of zero from three. I'm still thinking about mirrors, too.

Am currently reading Aamer Hussein's short story collection, Insomnia and have just placed three more books from Canongate's Myth series on pre-order - Binu and the Great Wall: The Myth of Meng by Su Tong, Girl Meets Boy: The Myth of Iphis by Ali Smith, and Where Three Roads Meet by Salley Vickers. I am so psyched for Where Three Roads Meet, so much so that in my text reshuffle (re: dissertation) I might swap it for one of the texts. I mean, come on, the myth of Oedipus? That's got a huge (post-)modern aesthetic. Also: it's awesome. So. (I have yet to work out what The Myth of Meng is; I've read my fair share of Chinese and Japanese mythology, but I don't always remember what's what, and this one doesn't ring a bell).
edit: Synopsis from Amazon. This will be a new one for me; I don't recognise the story.
In Peach village, crying is forbidden. But as a child, Binu never learnt to hide her tears. Shunned by the villagers, she faced a bleak future, until she met Qiliang, an orphan who offered her his hand in marriage. Then one day Qiliang disappears. Binu learns that he has been transported hundreds of miles and forced to labour on a project of terrifying ambition and scale - the building of the Great Wall.Binu is determined to find and save her husband. Inspired by her love, she sets out on an extraordinary journey towards Great Swallow mountain, with only a blind frog for company. What follows is an unforgettable story of passion, hardship and magical adventure.

Speaking of Canongate, fans of The Big Lebowski might want to check out this.
