Look, I know - this is getting dangerously close to being a theme. BUT! I was trying to look up which episode of NCIS is showing tonight and naturally the TV was on the music channel. It was playing yet another song I've been hearing a lot of recently, except this one is really sweet, and light and generally adorable. The lyrics, however, somewhat dodgy:

you're way too beautiful, girl / that's why it'll never work / you'll have me suicidal, suicidal when you say it's over

But let not these oddly macabre lyrics put you off! It's actually a really lovely melody, and it samples Stand By Me. The guy who sings it - Sean Kingston I think? - has a really sweet voice. And the video is made of win, too! It's set in two diners simultaneously. One is in the present day, one is about 50-60 years ago and you flip between the two, with everyone dancing and swinging and all sorts of happy things. It's sort of refreshing to have a song/video that isn't about pimps, hos, ice and doh-lah.

That song is *evil* (and not in a good way).

Where I used to live they'd play it on the radio once an hour and I thought my ears would bleed if they didn't shut it off.

Maybe it's okay if you hear it once or twice, but that amount of senseless repetition in a song every hour? I came so close to going postal it wasn't funny and I'm *very* even tempered.

I think my blood pressure went up just typing this...

And here I thought my comment was mild in comparison to my *actual* reaction.

For my penance I went and watched the video and no wonder you like it - it's not the same song!

Well, it is, but evidently the version played on that radio station was some horrid dance mix or something because they tossed most of the verses without cutting any of the (still) repetitive choruses. They also used the vocoder heavily throughout the whole song so you never can tell he's actually got a decent real voice. The mix was way more cheap synth heavy and that just made the Stand By Me sample stand out as a total rip off for commercial purposes only. Ugh.

So I went looking for pretty pics to apologize with (before I watched the video mind you) and none were comparable to the lovely ones you post so my offering felt insufficient.

All I could think of was to offer you some music that captured the atmosphere and beauty you seem to be drawn to in photographs.

Here's a video of Opeth performing Death Whispered a Lullaby live. If you can forgive a brief guitar solo it's a nice and slightly different version than the studio one (which I still prefer but this had its own appeal).
