May. 12th, 2007 11:27 pmThat Serbia won made everyone in the house scratch their heads but the real question of the night is WTF MALTA? Why on earth did we get 12 points from you?
O, Eurovision. We love you.

Date: 2007-05-13 12:05 am (UTC)I actually liked most of this year's songs, especially the ones in the semis - ironically, most of my favourites didn't get through.
Also: why do Israel get to take part when they're in Asia? /random

Date: 2007-05-13 12:08 am (UTC)I rest my case. :)
The first year with the semis was the year the Ukraine won with Wild Dances. Which, by the way, I totally pegged. I still love that song.
It's because no single continent ever claims Israel, so no-one really knows if it's in Asia or Europe. Much like Russia.

I... go through phases with that song, I hated it at first, but then it grew on me, then I hated it... I haven't heard it in forever. I'm mid-tracking down a ton of Eurovision songs though. And I always thought Russia was 'EurAsia' or whatever 'they' call it. Because it... spreads across the two, I guess. Or something. I need to find a map!

Date: 2007-05-13 12:10 am (UTC)Yeah, the scoring works via percentage of calls. So everyone in the UK calls a callcentre in the UK and the same for countries across Europe. And then say 90% of the UK vote went to Turkey - Turkey gets 12 points from us. But that on it's own doesn't mean anything. You don't have to get high scores from every country to win - you just have to get the highest accumulation of points.
Oh boy: the songs are pop/craptastic. It's fabulous!
