EVERYBODY MUST READ THIS FIC. It's Spooks fandom, so, so, so well written. Think post-apocalypse. Think zombies (I'm not kidding). Think claustrophobia, containment and connection. This is not a crackfic. This is an astoundingly brilliant AU that I have read twice through now.

Ros lines up her shots carefully, picks them off one by one by one, her lips moving as she squeezes the trigger. Keeping count.

‘Hundred and fifty.’ She says, pausing to reload. ‘Which brings my total to nine hundred and thirty, right?’

‘I’m not keeping count.’ Zaf replies, taking out three of them himself. ‘Ninety.’

‘So seven hundred and twenty for you, then.’

‘Is it?’

‘Yep. Never mind, Lou’s a pretty crap shot. You’re probably not in last place.’

‘Not everything in life is a competition, you know.’ He fires off two more shots. ‘Sixty.’

‘You only say that because you’re losing by…’ She pauses and takes out another one. ‘Two hundred and forty points.’

‘Are you sure you were never in the army?’

‘Yes. Stop changing the subject and be gracious in defeat.’

‘It’s not defeat until we’re done and they’re all lying in a pile on the floor with bullets in their brains.’

‘I love it when you get technical.’

hestia8 is one of those rare people in the Spooks fandom who has everyone down pat. She knows these characters, the way that they talk and think, the way that they act and react. She also has a flair for humour and real relationships. She takes the best parts of Spooks and brings them alive. It's a real treat to have someone like her in the fandom and it's worth it anyway, even if you don't watch the show. By far one of the best fics to come from the fandom in all the time it's been airing.

I'm going to third this. She's one of the few writers when I can really feel I'm completely hearing the characters talking and this is absolutely wonderful. Also - yay for zombies (and upon reading this I'm really looking forward to meeting Ros and Zaf now).

I feel not quite so alone now *smiles* Usually when watching Spooks I'm more of a Tom/Adam/Ruth/Zoe/Jools fangirl but there's something about that icon.
