Handed in my essay, three days before the deadline, woo! let's see if I can manage the same with my critical assessment assignment next week. (Assessment assignment, damn). Also got back my semester one marks and am not impressed. Well, actually, I'm not impressed but I knew that I hadn't done so well. My modernism marks were strong but I didn't do as well on African lit. as I should have done so my average is lower than I want it to be (by about 8 points). I'm hoping that my increased effort this term will help to make up for that but I can't vouch for anything because I don't know how this first research skills assignment is going to play out. If it doesn't go that well (it's 45% of the freaking mark), I have to compensate via the other two assignments. One is an annotated bibliography and the other is a dissertation proposal. What's really scary about those two things is that in order to complete them, I have to know what I want to write my dissertation on and really? Still not much of a clue. I'm wondering if I can pass for doing something on Plath but somehow all of my courses have turned out to be heavier on novels so I've not done that much poetry. I also haven't done much drama. My options sort of closed that out for me. Aaaand I just realised that when I get back after Easter, I have to choose my third year options. Damn.

I have three hours to kill before my research skills meeting. I have reading to do but I think I might try writing more fic. I'm trying to catch up with the [livejournal.com profile] numb3rs100 prompts (yes, again) but I don't know if I should do what I did with asymptote and make it into one fic, or just write them separately. I'm supposed to ask for custom fic from that comm, too, and I had an idea of what I wanted and now I don't anymore. Sigh.

The awesome thing is that when I get back tonight, I'm going to catch up on my viewage. See? Priorities. Luckily, we're into that slow period where they air repeats so I have plenty of time to catch up and then move onto re-watching Spooks. I really, really want to get back into that fandom and in a big, productive way. I feel sort of useless there right now because I didn't write anything for S5, even though I really wanted to. (I think there was that Tessa&Juliet fic, but I wanted to write some Ros and some Ruth, and it never really happened.) And I think if I can start writing again, maybe we can kick start the action in that comm? I mean, there is action, but it's very casual right now, and I'm really yenning for fic from S2-4. There should be more enthusiasm there! And alas, only a handful of enthusiasts. Also, it's cool that people have established their own fanon around the fandom, I love that (I do love that, I mean, see Tja; but I think it sort of makes the fandom exclusive? You have to know what happened here with this character who you've never met before in order to know what's happening here which also has people in it that have never featured in the canon and which you don't know how to handle), but most fandoms are built up (a) around canon and (b) around one off fics, not series, so I think I need to add to the one-off/canon-based stuff, because half the problem here is that I've sort of abandoned that fandom since coming to university. [livejournal.com profile] hestia8, I know you're often lamenting your many WIPS, but I wish I could be as half as productive as you. Plus, the zombie AU sounds so incredibly awesome, I'm in love with it already.

Anyway. Self! be more active in Spooks fandom! Yes. (Also: maybe fandangle a shiny layout? Because I'm in that kind of mood. Maybe. Must run that past [livejournal.com profile] littledrop.)

(I also think that one of the problems is that not having been anywhere near a real TV since I've been at uni, I haven't seen Life on Mars or The State Within and I know people from the Spooks fandom cycle in the other two and I'm all left out, lolz. I'm so egocentric.)

FLIST. PLEASE LISTEN TO USELESS DESIRES AND FLORIDA SO THAT I MAY META AT YOU ABOUT THESE SONGS. (It's been a while, I think. I didn't really do it for Cabinets; I think the last one I did was Regina Spektor's Samson. The original version, not the new one with the weird production.) SO. YES. PLEASE.

edit: Self! Next time you come to campus with the intention of spending more than half an hour there, bring earphones!

You... posted music?

Apparently I missed this. Apparently I'm wandering around with my eyes closed this afternoon. Apparently I'm still asleep.

*runs to find music*

Anytime you want a loan of The State Within DVDs, just shout. See how feisty George Blake is (points at icon)? You'd love her.

Ah - see, this is going to affect your mental stability.

I've just looked up at 'Deal or No Deal' and they have a wooden plank as one of the line of "people" behind the money boxes. The plank has rubber hands, glasses, a funny nose and a mustache.... I swear the sound is off and the only reason the tele's on is because I'm about to treat myself to an hour of Life On Mars ;-)

Treat yourself, get a portable :-) It's amazing what fun you can have at uni with a portable... drinking games for a start! And your friends snogging that woman out of Terminator when she's on screen....

Hummmm.....
