So, was browsing the flist and came across
melliyna's famous-crush post. I refuse to do a boy-crush equivalent of this post because not only is it wont to change quite quickly, suddenly and often, but whilst I was looking through my pictures, the variety of names on that list came across as vaguely terrifying. So. My girl-crush list! This was much longer, but I cut it down to my most stable crushes, the long hauls and what have you. (People that used to be on this list include: Torri Higginson, Allison Janney, Melina Kanakaredes, Scarlett Johanson, Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep, Navi Rawat, Diane Farr, Lisa Edelstein and many others. They weren't taken off because I don't girl-crush them, but because they're temp-crushes for now.)
Note: these aren't in any sort of order, just the order in which I found the pictures.
01. thandie newton.
» Anyone even remotely surprised by this choice obviously has never been to this journal before. She wasn't my first obsession, but she'll likely last pretty damn far. Talented, beautiful, intelligent - completely down to earth, too. Love her. I will watch all manner of rubbish just to see her, and I have. I own Chronicles of Riddick, seriously. I put myself through Mission Impossible 2. Was it worth it? HELL YES.
02. michelle yeoh.
» Possibly my first, lasting girl crush. I went through a phase of adoring Asian/Far-Eastern actresses, and whilst Kelly Hu of all people set that off, it was Yeoh that I keep returning to over and over again. There were others I could have chosen! Gong Li, Maggie Cheung, Ming Na, Sandra Oh, Kelly Hu herself, Charlie Yeung &c. &c. But no. Michelle is the best of all the rest.
03. angelina jolie.
» She may be badass, but she's also just an amazing person. She may be beautiful, but she's also brilliantly talented. I'm a bigger fan of her earlier work (Girl, Interrupted; Gia &c.) but her new stuff is as pervasive, so whatever.
04. aishwarya rai.
» I have come to the conclusion that dearest Ash can't act that well, but I have yet to give a damn.
05. zhang ziyi.
» Michelle Yeoh sent me running to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and there emerged this pretty little ballerina of a girl. Zhang is very, very pretty, and I've yet to see something of hers in which she hasn't shone. I'd always pick Yeoh over her, but you can imagine how amazing it was for me to see Geisha with the two of them reunited again. (And with Gong Li! Wow.)
06. claire forlani.
» Seeing her on CSI: NY has made that show even better for me. I love Forlani, and I've seen her in a sum total of two films, one of which makes my 'worst ever' list. But I saw her in Meet Joe Black and I've never been able to tear my eyes of the screen when she strolls on, which explains why I watched Antitrust of all things. Gah.
07. lena olin.
» Oh, Lena. From Alias to Chocolat and beyond, you are honestly one of the world's most beautiful women.
08. sandra bullock.
» Before Thandie, there was Sandra, and oh how there was Sandra. Speed, anyone? Practical Magic? 28 Days? A talented and lovely woman, and also really, really smart. I love brains on a girl. I will always, always love this actress.
09. maura tierney.
» Obviously, I saw her in ER as Abby, back in the days when Lockhart was this tragic figure. Now she's not so much tragic, but plain beautiful. Ever since I first saw her on the show, I've been running to catch up with her. I really do think she's a tremendous actress, and I don't know how to put that any other way.
10. audrey tautou.
» Amelie was only the first of many times that I have fallen for this girl. What an amazing and versatile actress! And so precociously pretty, too. &hearts
11. carey lowell.
» Confession: I've seen her in Law & Order and five episodes of Big Apple and that's all. But I will be a fan of hers from here til kingdom come because of those two years she spent on L&O. No-one has bettered her, in my opinion (I never saw Clare Kincaid). Also: she's an amazingly zen person and I love that.
12. jorja fox.
» I saw her in ER first, then The West Wing and finally I saw her break in CSI and she's basically the single reason that I watch that show anymore. She's this quirky sort of pretty, and the things she believes in match what I believe in to quite a degree. I will watch anything she is in.
13. shannen doherty.
» I saw her in Charmed where she was my favourite of the three actresses. Then I saw her in Beverly Hills 90210 and that was it, I was sold. Another actress who I will follow through everything.
14. parminder nagra.
» When she got the gig on ER, I was ecstatic, and a little disappointed that she'd missed the show's heyday. She's smart, focused, British Asian and rising. I think if she can get her break, she'll really perform. They need to give her better roles. (I still love Bend It Like Beckham, though. Of course I do.)

Date: 2007-01-03 04:00 pm (UTC)Yay! I can't imagine my life without watching that movie at least once a week. Sad? Quite possibly, but while I admit I was reluctant to watch it at first, I'm really glad I did. Because it is awesome. (And that picture of Audrey Tautou is fantastic.)
