This post was brought to you by the letter RANT. It's The Unpopular Fandom-Opinions Meme. Let the de-friending commence. !!!

1) Oh, fuck off Rodney! Whilst I love David Hewlett (I really do) and whilst I also, to some extent, love Rodney, the above still stands. Gah.

1b) Fuck off John/Rodney shippers, too. I am sick of it. I'm not even convinced by the best stuff in that arena of fandom. This does not include Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose because that fic BROKE MY HEART.

2) At the same time: fuck off wincest.

3) Vanessa Ferlito may have been pretty cool but there's no way that you can look at her sub-par acting and then compare it to Anna Belknap's sub-par acting and decide that one betters the other. The problem here is not with the actresses, it's with the writing and the fact that FERLITO WAS GIVEN SHIT-ALL TO DO and thus decided to leave. Also, she's a New Yorker who had to live in California for a show that, again, was giving her shit-all to do. Leave off Belknap and leave off the Lindsay/Danny storyline. The two actors actually manage to have chemistry which is more than I can say for anyone paired with that brat-actor Caruso. And on top of that, don't fucking tell me Ferlito had more or less chemistry with anyone because let's go back to the first wankage in this point, shall we?

4) David Tennant is not that attractive, guys. Yes, okay, he's as big a fangirl as the rest of us most of the time and that makes him loveable but he's really not that cute.

5) CUT YOUR HAIR, KRUMHOLTZ. Either that or invest in a fucking hair-tie.

6) House bores me beyond belief these days. It's so formulaic. CSI does more with the four act structure than House does and it's a fucking crime show.

6b) Screw you anti-GSR. I know that GSR-shippers are FUCKING CRAZY but anti-GSR people are just as bad. The fucking thing is canon now - just ignore the crazy folk. Stop ranting about it. It happened. (And if you dare look at that scene and say it's not canon, I'll scream because there is nothing more obvious than that). I mean, I am a GSR-shipper who never ever wanted them to get together in canon (too much potential to fuck it up) but ok, yes, my squee-meter was up and also, even if was not a shipper, I'd still see it as canon because THAT IS WHAT IT IS.

6c) LAW AND ORDER (and all its spawn, even the ones that were fucking cut, bejebus) WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER THAN EVERY OTHER CRIME SHOW IN EXISTENCE. It's twenty-thousand times smarter, slicker, more intriguing and just fucking better than CSI, all the CSI spawn and all the CSI-inspired spawn out there. It is better than my personal baby, Numb3rs. It is better than Criminal Minds. It is better than Cold Case and The Closer and The Shield. Accept that and life will get easier, I promise. Life will actually improve.

7) Supernatural is not as good as people make out that it is. It's good enough to watch week on week (unlike SOME shows and yes, I'm talking about you Miami) but it's winning on a premise that has nothing to do with what was promised in the first three episodes. Demons are not urban legends. If they were, Buffy would be described as a show about urban legends. YET THIS IS NOT THE CASE whatever. I seriously hope that they are more subtle with the family shit this year, and that Padalecki learns to act as well as Ackles. Also: it's not scary.

8) Firefly also was not all that good. I love it to fucking pieces but I can totally see why it was cut. On that note: fuck off Inara. (Not, by the way, Morena Baccarin, who is completely rocking my socks in Stargate right now. Rock on, girl! Who knew that you understood nuance?!)

9) Being elitist over watching US-made television doesn't make you a patriot, it makes you an idiot. I don't watch US TV because I am bowing to consumerism (which, even if I was, who the fuck gives a shit?) or because I hate Britain but because I happen to like the longer-than-6-fucking episode season arcs, I am enamoured by the pretty people and fairly-good writing. British writing is only good if it's from the BBC. That said, people need to quit whinging about Spooks because it's better than nearly everything else that I watch.

10) FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS SHINY, SG-1 DOES NOT NEED AN 11th SEASON.

* I don't really hate everything about you. And everything I've talked about here, I actually love. Well, apart from House. [The only way I could be induced into watching that show again is if they gave Cuddy something to do.] Anyway, what I'm saying is that if I actually hated these shows, I wouldn't bother to watch and fangirl. If these comments got anyone's underwear so far in a twist that they couldn't breathe, feel free to defriend, mostly because I think that would actually be a pretty stupid reaction. I figure we can have differing opinions and still be friends. If you don't agree, sorry.

Dude. Have a sense of humour. Or, at least, irony.

eta: 11) Judging a series and deciding to hate it on principle JUST FROM SPOILERS is the stupidest thing in fandom. It really is. Why the hell are you writing off a series just because a new character has been added, or an old one has been taken away? You have no idea whether or not you're going to like something until you've seen it and if you go in with your bitch face on, you're likely to come out with it STILL THERE. Give them a fucking chance before you start to have a barmy. The point of spoilers is to induce the happy. If it doesn't, stop reading them. Or at the very least: USE A CUT.

Oooh I used to totally love Spooks!!!

And totally and utterly agree with number 10, SG1 does NOT need an 11th season but they better keep the fucking actors AWAY from Atlantis!!

Cos I swear they get rid of anyone...I just dont like the "hey these guys had 10 years you guys had 3 so we gonna fire half of you and give these guys MORE years" idea...thats fucking bullshit...

Hee, I still love spooks! *pets comm*

I don't think they'll fire anyone at Atlantis for SG people. I don't think SG people have a place in Atlantis, really, but I wouldn't be all that bummed so long as people kept giving Lizzie stuff to do. I wouldn't mind the Atlantis writers being given an ethical code, either.

Lol Spooks stopped airing in Australia so I stopped watching but yeah...it is an awesome show!

I wouldn't mind if Daniel went to Atlantis lol, that's the only one that really makes sense...

Oh, hallelujah. He could at least run a comb through it, seriously.

As for the blonde - sigh. If only she'd been a red-head! I'm going to reserve judgement on her until I've seen her in action. I think Meg would have made an interesting addition to the cast if she remained evil and not an object of lust. But we're talking about WB writers who are aiming for a male teen audience. Fuck 'em, I say. Why risk writing quality for a minority viewership? Seriously.

It's the girl from Veronica Mars, I think. If that's the case, she's a cookie-cutter for the sweetheart next door but will not cut a fine Buffy figure.

I can't talk though. The only character I ever disliked in BtVS (other than Riley who I believe to be an obligatory-hate object) was Buffy herself.

I really have more hate towards the writers than anyone else. Not because a girl was introduced but because she was introduced for the wrong reasons.

OMG DEFRENDZ!!!

I mean: aw. Does that mean I shouldn't ask you to beta the longass McKay/Sheppard fic I haven't written yet? Bummer.

It just so happens that I hate Sheppard/Weir with the heat of a nova, though, and love Rodney with about as much - actually: more - passion, but I can totally accept that you think otherwise. ♥

(Impeccable timing, btw. I just posted a comment full of Unpopular Fannish Opinions re: CSI:NY Spoilers over at [livejournal.com profile] csi_ny. I'm still waiting to be bitched at.)

OHNOEZ U H0R!!!

lolz. I would totally beta that once you've written it. Because obvs I've read enough of it to know that it needs to be good for me to give a damn. I don't really hate Rodney. *pets Rodney*

And yeah, I know there are a shitload of people who hate Sheppard/Weir. I...don't. But that's because I love the Weirh0r and can pair her with anyone who isn't Rodney, Bates, Kavanaugh or with the Genii. So that pairing is more about omg!Weir than the flyboy.

(Ha! Oh, the shit in that fandom has been ready to fly for so damn long. And to be entirely honest? I do not fucking get it. I do not understand this whole, you have to choose one character over the other, or one pairing over the other. I also don't understand the way in which the whole thing has become a full-frontal attack in that fandom. I'm so glad I'm on the sidelines for it because that fandom is beginning to go batshit insane.)

Date: 2006-09-05 07:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] twincy.livejournal.com
My opinion re: McKay/Sheppard is rocky, in that I'm still not sure I actually believe in the pairing. It really depends on how you interpret the characters, and frankly a lot of fic gets it very wrong. When it's done right, though, it's beautiful, and it's absolutely my main pairing right now - mostly because I've drifted from all my other fandoms, at least temporarily.

Thing is, I really, really love Rodney. But not in a "I could ship him with anyone" kind of way, because as illustrated, I still have my doubts about shipping him with Shep, even.

Weir is seriously underused. I don't hate Shep/Weir so much as that I just don't see it, and I really don't think those two would be any good for eachother. Teyla/Weir, now that's a whole other story.

(I suppose I'm guilty of that in some ways, because most pairings in that fandom make me ill, but yes. Low tolerance, and less to no inclination for actual discussion, as opposed to stating the same points over and over again and going around in circles. I have *never* liked that fandom; in fact, it's right there with Criminal Minds on the list of "OMG Why must this fandom consist of morons because I LIKE this show.")

My McKay pairing is actually Beckett/McKay. So...yeah. And unlike most of my fandoms, I can't pair Rodney up with people! I just can't do it! *hits self*

(See, THAT'S the thing about the NY fandom: no discussion. I get so mad about that. The fandom is so closed off. And a-HA! I am so not in the CM fandom, yay!)

(Speaking of irritating fandoms...I find the SGA fandom to be like that on the whole. In fact, I find most fandoms to be like that. Random: the Numb3rs fandom is actually a really nice place, even with the crazy slashers.

Amen. I love the show, like dearly love it, but when I watch it, I'm watching it for pure, unadulterated enjoyment; not because the writing is top-flight, or because the acting is of a high standard (which in both cases, most of the time, its just not) but because it simply rocks my socks and the chemistry between the leads is there Nothing more, nothing less. :)

Lolz. I wouldn't swoon over him but I think he can act when he actually tries (and is given a script worth shit). I like to think that I am at least marginally shallow and like pretty people but as it turns out, I much prefer those with talent.

I can be shallow and swoon over pretty people who can't act as long as they keep their mouth shut. My bad!acting sensor is *way* too finely tuned.

I can't vouch for Ackles' acting, as I've only ever seen one episode of SPN and was too busy going "Seriously, SERIOUSLY?" a lot to pay much attention.

See...not so much. I fangirl Ackles for his rare performances.

And I remembered the reason why I watch SPN week on week - it's a social thing. The Flatmate and I watch it together so that we can mock.

I am possibly a bad fangirl. That or a snob. Or, hey! Both!

I disagree with you on Law and Order because Homicide: Life on the Street is my favorite crime show ever. I feel like L&O is dragging, but I really do love the Logan/Briscoe years.

I try not to take SPN too seriously. I like the characters even though the monsters of the week thing is tedious. It's one of my popcorn shows. And Jared should learn to act. Flaring nostrils and grinding the jaw is not convincing.
