Oh, I am so in love with this show. All three actresses killed me, Jeane Tripplehorn especially (in that scene). Oh. Oh. Completely slayed me. (And Nicki's mad response? And Margene slipping up the stairs? AND BARB, OH MY. ! *random flailing*) Seriously, I felt so bad for Barb at the end, and it was one of those moments when you think thank fuck for family because the way Margene and Nicki come to her is magnificent. Also, Nicki's intense fear is wondrous to behold because she is terrified and Sevigny totally sold me on that front.

This show is funny and heartwarming and not just about sex, and you should be watching it. And if you missed it, too bad because it really is just something else.

eta: Ooh, Once Upon A Time In Mexico.

eta 2:

Back at the Joey and Wanda's, we open on a shot of Alby's limp, wedding-ring-wearing hand, and we hear Joey coming in the door. Wanda's a little startled to see him home so soon; it's evident she was hoping Alby would have expired before Joey walked through the door. Joey asks, "Why is Alby sleeping on our sofa?" Then the penny drops and he realizes..."Oh, no. You promised!" Okay, how much do I love that Wanda's poisoning habit is just treated like a long-running marital spat? [Sobell, TWoP; underlining by me]

This was totally my response! I heard joey's reaction and I said to The Rents: "I love how this is something she's done often enough for them to make her PROMISE never to do it again. I mean, come on. ANTIFREEZE? IN THE KITCHEN?"

Joey then calls Lois and says darkly, "It's Wanda." Lois replies, "Oh, lord. Not again." I...I don't even have the words for how much I love that they treat her poisoning people like we treat the cats horfing hairballs on the bed -- it's an unpleasant hassle but ultimately a minor inconvenience. His voice rising with every syllable, Joey haltingly asks Lois to come sit with Wanda while he runs off to meet Bill. Wanda calmly says, "I don't need anyone, Joey." He comes completely unglued, shouting, "Oh, Wanda, you do!" [Sobell, TWoP]

This entire scene had me in hysterics and when you think about it, it's very bad! She just poisoned this guy. Admittedly, he was threatening the baby (and Joey), but it turns out that Wanda is the one who poisoned Frank in the first place which - I don't even know what to say about that. I fucking LOVE that all Joey has to say is "It's Wanda" and Lois knows exactly what the hell is going on. Wanda? You are INSANE.

OMG AND THEN THE SCENE WHEN JOEY IS ON THE PHONE, SHIELDING FROM BILL OMG.

Lois wants to know what Joey would like them to do about what she delicately terms "our little situation." Joey asks, "And...how's that going?" The penny has just dropped for Bill; he demands to know what's going on. Lois says with some concern, "He's still passed out, but his breathing's quickening. I suspect he's about to wake up." She seems sort of disappointed by this. Anyway, Lois wants to know what Joey thinks they should do. [Sobell, TWoP; underline by me]

At this point, Joey proceeds to flip the fuck out and my sides are aching with laughter. Joey pretty much resorts to yelling down the phone: "MOM HANG ON!"

So then he tells Bill that Wanda poisoned Alby. Bill's stunned expression is truly hilarious to behold. It's like someone just told him Wanda's been breeding prize pterodactyls in the old fish farm tanks. Bill says weakly, "Alby's dead?" Joey says, "No, but it's close. Antifreeze. [pause] Like with Dad. Except not arsenic." Bill dazedly asks, "Wanda poisoned Dad?" Joey replies, "Yeah. Kind of." Bill protests that Wanda called him to tell him, to save Frank, and Joey says, "Well, not really. She called because she felt guilty you never had a chance to say good-bye." Heh. I love how calling the police hasn't even been floated as an option for the backwoods Borgia. Bill picks up the phone and barks at Lois to take Alby to a hospital now. She decides she will after she's done singing, "I told you it wasn't me that poisoned your father, but oh, no, nobody believed me." Bill asked if anyone knows the effects of antifreeze and Wanda coolly replies, "Gets drunk, passes out, then it's the kidneys that go." [Sobell, TWoP; underline by me]

Seriously: the woman just rattles the symptoms off, just like that. And Lois is having so much fun with it that I can't even express how fucking awesome this entire sequence was. Jebus. Antifreeze?!
