I'm fairly pretentious about my movie viewing but I do have a few notable exceptions: see 13 going on 30 for example. Oh, and Proof of Life (which, for UKers who can get five, is on tomorrow night). That being said, The Lake House hits a middleground. It's not ditzy and utter rubbish but it's hardly Crash.

It's a romance drama with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, the latter of whom I find to be hugely underrated; she's fabulous in everything she's been in. The basic premise is that they're corresponding, but they're two years apart. They're connected by a "magic" (of sorts) mailbox outside a glass house that sits by a lake. At separate times, they each have lived there. They fall in love. But the story is about families, too, and isolation, and connections. It is a romance so I don't think it will be for everyone. But it's such a lovely story, a little cliched but more than watchable. I really recommend it. You can see the trailer here.

The Lake House sounds a lot like my favourite movie ever... but I guess it's hardly an original concept, so there's no point in complaining. It sounds like fun, though.

If you get the chance, definitely go to see it. It's not the world's most original concept, agreed, but the film is really worth it.

I really enjoyed The Lake House - just got back from seeing it. I thought it was beautifully shot and I loved the whole tone of it, really slow and melancholy. And I thought Keanu and Sandra Bullock were really good. It was very much a warm fuzzy smile n'awwwww kind of movie, you know?

Yes! And I came out feeling all happy, too. I wish I didn't guess the dead man plotline, but I did. But the ending! Oh yay. I was so pleased, lol.

Yeah, I guessed it too. But it's a Hollywood chick flick, it was always going to have a happy ending!

I was really worried that his death was going to be the big reveal and that it would have a sad ending, a la Message in a Bottle. I wanted their love to win!

...which it did. So yay!
