{ The Lake House [no spoilers] }
Jun. 24th, 2006 03:11 pmI'm fairly pretentious about my movie viewing but I do have a few notable exceptions: see 13 going on 30 for example. Oh, and Proof of Life (which, for UKers who can get five, is on tomorrow night). That being said, The Lake House hits a middleground. It's not ditzy and utter rubbish but it's hardly Crash.
It's a romance drama with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, the latter of whom I find to be hugely underrated; she's fabulous in everything she's been in. The basic premise is that they're corresponding, but they're two years apart. They're connected by a "magic" (of sorts) mailbox outside a glass house that sits by a lake. At separate times, they each have lived there. They fall in love. But the story is about families, too, and isolation, and connections. It is a romance so I don't think it will be for everyone. But it's such a lovely story, a little cliched but more than watchable. I really recommend it. You can see the trailer here.
