So, by May 2nd (that's a week this Tuesday coming for those of you who aren't even sure which year it is) I need to have chosen the courses I want to do next year. The format is the same as this year - one double unit and two single units per semester (although in Semester 2, the reserch unit is compulsory - not an issue because I was going to pick that one anyway). Of course, I could always swap out one of the units for an alternative which may be useful. I doubt it though. We're going to talk to various tutors next week, obviously, but this is the list of courses.

Year 2 | SEMESTER 1 | Double Units

ENGL2005 Romanticism
ENGL2008 Introduction to Creative Writing
ENGL2010 Postcolonial Texts and Contexts
ENGL2051 Modernism*

Year 2 | SEMESTER 1 | Single Units

ENGL2011 Women, Writing & Modernity in Britain, 1790-1865
ENGL2018 Images of Knighthood**
ENGL2029 Drama since WWII
ENGL2034 Themes in Mid-19th –Century American Literature
ENGL2046 Terror and Resistance in African Literature and Culture*
ENGLNEW1 Drama and Society in the Age of Shakespeare
ENGLNEW2 Twentieth-Century American Drama
FILM2006 Introduction to Film Studies*

Year 2 | SEMESTER 2 | Double Units

ENGL2007 On Reading: The Reader in C20 American Literature*
ENGL2009 Shakespeare’s Histories and Comedies
ENGLNEW3 Victorian Novel**
ENGLNEW4 Writing & Culture in Post-war Britain

Year 2 | SEMESTER 2 | Single Units

ENGL2006 Research Skills (compulsory)
ENGL 2027 Children’s Literature
ENGL2032 Irish Literature
ENGLNEW5 Images of Women, 1880-1940 (not sure - I like the look of some of the course and hate the look of other bits)
ENGLNEW6 Aspects of Victorian Culture**

* Courses I'm likely to choose.
** Courses I'm totally not likely to choose

By the looks of things, unless I have to take one unit in Victorian literature (which I might have to if they say that across years 2&3 I have to take one Victorian unit), I'll probably be choosing Modernism (double), Terror & Resistance in African Literature and Culture (Single), Introduction to Film Studies (Single); On Reading, The Reader in C20 American Literature (Double), Research Skills (Single, Compulsory), and then either Children's lit., Images of Women or an alternative subject (most likely philosophy omg). The thing about taking Int. to Film is that it opens me up to taking Film units in year 3 which is appealing to me at the moment. Even if I change my mind it'll be a good course.

But yeah, decisions, decisions. I have to go to a info. lecture on Tuesday and before I hand in my ballot I have to see my personal tutor (the guy who looks like he's a Hell's Angel but is actually a Shakespeare expert omg), and they'll probably tell us which units go together better or something along those lines and unless there are compulsory units that I have to take either Y2 or Y3, I should be set. It's scary, yo.

ETA: My crit. theory exam can be collected on June 8th, my lit. hist. exam can be collected on May 25th wtf?! (and Csengei has already been bombarding us with information on how to research for the exam, argh! I'll probably end up doing one question on Fantomina and one on Zofloya - if I ever finsih the latter, that is). As for the Middle English unit, I have no idea.

I know, it's mad. But next year looks to be pretty good.

As a point of interest: squaddie is RAF slang for the Army, heh. As for the jargon they use for themselves, I'm going to use Wings, as in flight squadrons. I think that'll work.
