Um, first off,
tigertrapped? Where are you? *misses* Oh, also,
crouchingmajor, I got your text and would have replied except I was seriously late getting it, so I'll email you in a bit. Hope you're ok.
In other news, I finished Their Eyes Were Watching God today, which is very, very good. If you liked the style of The Colour Purple, I think you'll find this a surprisingly easy read. It's something of an innocent romance novel, but there are undertones of what it means to be black and what it means to be a woman, all tied up in the narrative. A beautiful read with a somewhat aching conclusion. Lovely.
Anyway, because I didn't do any reading yesterday, I ended up doing double this morning. The thing about To The Lighthouse is that if you read it long enough (and not in short three-chapter bursts, as I have been), the whole stream-of-consciousness stuff becomes really easy to digest. This is the only Virginia Woolf that I've read, but I'm going to tackle Orlando next, and then Mrs. Dalloway. Hopefully. Then I can read The Hours without feeling like a hopeless fraud. (Don't ask).
Am also reading Wide Sargasso Sea, which, again, would probably be better if I wasn't reading it in fits and starts, but that's the only way I'll get my set reading done on time. It's a curious novel, really, especially as I know that it ties in with Jane Eyre. I like it but don't really know what to make of it.
Am going to - at the very least - choose an essay title today. I really have no motivation to get it planned or start writing it but I really should, especially as I'll be in London for Diwali the weekend before it's due. Then I'm going to watch a movie because I want a break. Will hopefully have a new layout very soon, featuring the delectable Miss Thandiwe. Hurrah!
