Drops of Jupiter - Train

Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way?

I heard this song earlier this month. It was the first time I’d heard it in a while and it lifted me completely and utterly. Even now, when I play it on repeat, it does something to me. I can’t help but respond to it ecstatically.

I’ll Find A Way - Rachel Yamagata

But now I find that when it comes to you
I'm the winner of cards I can't play
Wait for me, wait for me
Darling, I need you desperately, desperately here

This was the song that was played in ER after Michael returns to Iraq. I fell in love with it then and it breaks my heart now. The lyrics are wonderful (similar in brilliance to Anna Nalick’s Breathe but not as quixotic) and terrifyingly sad, if you’re in that kind of mood.

Give You Back - Vertical Horizon

And as the vision fades
I'll say I was blinded by your eyes
I felt them burn

Yes, this is the song I was talking about that was in the Alias pilot. I have a thing for TV music at the moment. Another one that gets me and I can’t really pinpoint why except that it probably has to do with misheard sentiment.

I Am A Town - Mary Chapin Carpenter

I am not your destination,
I am clinging to my ways

[livejournal.com profile] sens_nita sent this to me earlier this month because we were discussing ‘come back home’ novels. Now I have a plot bunny the size of Everest that involves Papa Eppes and Don and Albuquerque and it is killing me. I should really stop listening to the song but I can’t help it. I love it too much.

Kissing You - Des’rée

Touch me deep, pure and true,
gift to me forever

As much as I have a fetish for Prince covers at the moment, I had to choose between When Doves Cry and this one and dropped the other one because whilst the music is wondrous, that only really lasts whilst the kid is singing solo. Kissing you is Des’rée’s contribution to Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet and is a brilliant display of this wonderful singer’s talent. As much as I love her eclectic lyrics (Life is one of my favourite peppy songs in the world), this song is just better. Was playing during the scene when Romeo meets Juliet, btw.

Big Machine - Goo Goo Dolls

Swallow all your bitter pills
That’s what makes you beautiful

This song is full of awesome lyrics and just sets the pulse racing because each and every line falls solidly on beat. There isn’t a note out of place. There’s something exhilarating and happy-inducing about the music and I play it as loud as I can just for that reason.
