Bring on the fanrant
Mar. 29th, 2005 12:10 pmComment with any relationship from a fandom that you know I follow, or at least have some knowledge about. I will ramble for 100 words about aforementioned 'ship. This may be incoherent gushing or exclamations of disgust, depending on what it is.
So, who's first? Y'all know kinda what I'm in to (if not, check the userinfo). This will be therapeutic, no?

Date: 2005-03-29 03:33 am (UTC)Oh god, you don't like to make things easy, do you?
Adam/Fiona: Honestly? I think they're cute. Sometimes the writing really bugs me because there's often a case of one-upmanship and I think Fiona could be so much stronger than what she actually is (she doesn't need to be Nouska but come on!) I really loved the breakfast scene in the S3 finale (yes, I’m a sap); but I just found it touching. I wish it were more like the episode when we first meet Fi (the flirting, the slight sense of dangereux) but I’ll settle with anything that doesn’t become a soap opera.
Cath/Gris: I just cannot read this ship. I’m sure it’s full of angst and history (like most of my OTPs, actually) but I can’t see it. I can understand a friendship, that makes sense to me. But I can’t see Cath ever having pined away for Gil, nor can I see Gris ever seeing anything in Cath. I don’t think she matches him intellectually. That’s not to say that she’s dumb or anything but she’s not exactly matched to him, is she? The idea of a ship isn’t out of range but I don’t see it and that’s NOT because of the GSR. The GSR isn’t even that great anymore.
Goren/Eames: I love the fics in this fandom when Goren finally loses it and Eames is the only one who can get through to him. Pure fluff but it’s adorable. I don’t think they’d work in canon; they have that banter down pretty well. I once read a fic when Eames married someone else and the two of them entered this self-destructive circle. That’s what I think about this ship – they’re very finely balanced. Too much in either direction would ruin the pairing and I quite like them as they are.
Doggett/Reyes: Oh, go away! I was never ever a Moronica fan and I don’t read this ship at all. I hate it. I could see how the writers were pushing it and it has none of the finesse of Mulder/Scully. I actually resented having this ship forced down my throat. UGH! And it’s actually all because of Moronica. Not Annabeth Gish (whom I love). Not Doggett (whom I also love). Just her. I wanted to throttle her! I only liked her in the weird lip-syncing episode. (Yo!9)

Stella/Mac! & Sheppard/Weir!

Date: 2005-03-29 06:07 am (UTC)This should be interesting, especially considering I’ve never seen an episode of SG: A ever! I think I’ll leave that one ‘til last.
Stella/Mac: Where shall I start? As soon as I saw them on screen together in that Miami/NY crossover, I knew I’d love them. You’ve got quiet, reticent Mac with his little mantras (“everything is connected”) and Stella, all sass and science. Could you really ask for more? Putting aside my personal love for long-term ships (and come on - they were so totally doing it once upon a time. Clare-schmare) just look at that chemistry. They know each other, they’re comfortable in that. They’ve both been booted from their Catholicism; Mac needles Stella about her vocab (“gooey”); Stella needles Mac to get out of the lab. Um, I think that was 100+ words. *shrugs* Oh well.
Sheppard/Weir: Dude, why not? It’s waaay obvious that he and that Teyla chick have no interest in each other. And this ship isn’t bound by regulations! You’ve got power play, the god gorgeous fly-boy, the woman in charge. And don’t tell me they’re not fighting each other with their eyes. They want this ship as much as we do. And I’m learning this from fic alone. That’s another reason why I love the ship: I’ve read some awesome fanfic and I can see it. All this without having ever seen an episode? Oh they are so right for each other. And anyway, Tori Higgins is so much more appropriate than that bizarre blonde chick from Stargate.

So very true!!! Loves Mac/Stella, They are what the other needs, they compliment each other so very well!
Dude, and Shep/Weir is so about the power play!
John + Lizzie + fightness = Teh Hottness!

G/S: Omigod, where to begin? Well, everyone and their dog knows that my favourite CSI episode is also the first one I ever saw. Too Tough To Die is my all time CSI favourite from all three series and mostly because I love Sara. As a character she's definitely gone downhill (wtf is the matter with the writers??) but the idea of her still remains strong. Someone who loves their job. It's that simple. Really. Ok, maybe not so much but there abouts. And I get this whole teacher/student vibe going on between her and Gil that is NOT healthy. I'm not like the crew at YTDaW (GSR at any cost) - I want it plausible and I'm just as happy if the two of them are angsting all over the place as if they're together. Moreso, actually, because I'm all about tears.
(This is more than 100 words because I haven't finished yet).
Grissom and Sara are another one of those ships that have a past and a history and yes, ok, so do Cath and Grissom but it's not the same. C/G history starts from the moment they met to the here and now. S/G history starts somewhere way back when, stops for, like, ever and then starts again in S1. There's a hole but Gil calls for Sara to come to Vegas and then begins the fun. Did he call for Cath? No. He totally appreciates Cath, is a very good friend to her. Is about as confused around her as he is around Sara. But Sara's a protogée of sorts and that is damn attractive to him.

Date: 2005-03-29 10:33 am (UTC)Well, let's see. The first time I saw Thandie was only last year when she started her guest stint on ER. The episode Makemba just made me fall in love with her (her voice, her mannerisms) and I felt she was really beautiful so I looked up her work and I found out that she was a really down-to-earth person and that impressed me. From then on out, I followed her progress in the media; I also watched MI:2 whenever ITV2 showed it. I read interviews she'd done - one that touched me in particular was an article about Ripley's birth. This (and learning about her history) persuaded me that Thandiwe is a lovely person.
Not just that, though. I love the way she acts - her diction is perfect and ever since I heard about Crash I've been super-giddy! I absolutely cannot wait.
