Can someone please explain to me how a person goes about calculating their GPA? It'll probably be redundant anyway, but just in case. Thanks in advance.

Poll 2 is up at [livejournal.com profile] duck_cheer. Will probably take it down this evening.

Being Human continues to be both a chore to watch and also really quite good. I don't know what that is about, other than inherent laziness. I don't think it's a masterpiece of televisual writing, like most people who are into it, but it really is better than I let on.

And now it's time to run.

Grades are weighted in the US as follows:

A = 4.0
B = 3 .0
C = 2.0
D = 1.0
F = 0

You add up your final grades for the semester/year and divide by the number of classes. So, if you had 8 classes and got 4 As 3 Bs and a C, your GPA would be 3.75 out of a possible 4.0.

As I have no clue about UK schooling, I can't help you in figuring out what yours might be.

Well, this is what we do over here, if it's any help (we grade with numbers 1-5): just add together all the final grades for all the courses you've taken in a particular module/section/whatever and then divide by number of courses taken in that module to get the average grade. Grade 2.5 gets rounded up to average of 3, 3.5 to 4 and so on.

Some (most?) faculties here use "weighed" average, which means basically that if you have one course that is worth 2 credit points and another worth 5 credit points, the grade for the latter course has more effect on your GPA: what you basically do then is assign a grade for each study point earned, so that if you got a 4 for the 2 point course and a 3 for the 5 point course, you count (4x2+3x5)/7=3,29=GPA3 instead of (4+3)/2=3.5=GPA4. ETA: I think this is actually the official way we should do it (for the obvious reasons that different faculties have differently constructed modules and also that it's, well, more accurate), except my faculty seems to do it the other, easier way because they're lazy as fuck.

Ah, thank you. I think I need the American way (am trying to work out my GPA for a job app in the UK...for an American parent company) but your way seems... actually, I think it works the way our grades work in the UK, but it just looks complicated, lol.

My undergraduate school uses this GPA calculator, if that's any help. (Our weights were a little weird when you got into the +/- grades, I seem to remember.)

Thank you! I don't need to worry about +/- grades as we don't have those in the UK. But that's very useful; thanks.

Lol, hey you. Glad to see you're still alive! Hope all's well and that you are making time for essential things like breathing, eating etc.

Breathing and eating are sooo overrated. No, I'm all good, cheers. :D Reading between the lines here I now see I need to wish you luck with your job application. So, luck!

I'm still kind of weirdly fascinated with your icon... is she wearing, like, high heels, a bathing suit and a flying cap? *squints*

Thank you; am...not thinking about it today? Um. Lol.

I thought it was a headband, but it could plausibly be goggles, which I prefer, so let's go with that.

YES. Because she is a secret agent at a ball where someone tried to kill her, so she jumped over the balcony into the ocean, and shedding her ball gown (but not her shoes, because she'll need them later) she swam to a secret island where she was met by her trusty steed who is at this moment carrying her to the other side of the island where she has hidden the aeroplane she will fly to safety, in time to prevent the certain destruction of the known universe.
