DEAREST YULETIDE AUTHOR,

Hello! Thank you for offering to write one of my fandoms! Thank you for even liking one of my fandoms! I am already excited about whatever you will write because I already know that I am going to love it.

Below is some stuff that may or may not be useful. Take what you will, disregard the rest. (I am trying to make my letter less...VERBOSE this year. Possibly I have already failed.)

In general I prefer gen/character stories to shippy ones, but only marginally so; I read het/gen/slash/multiple, and am very easy to please in that respect. I dislike: incest, character-bashing (specifically lady bashing), embarrassment, gratuitous abuse.

Some (maybe) useful things are my tumblr (and the archive) where you can find things that are to my taste; my previous yuletide letters which may or may not give you an idea of the broader things I like/dislike, and have other links; my eljay tags which I will link specifically with each fandom. These are vague resources but if you look around these places, my profile, my (fairly defunct) fic journal, I think you can get a fairly good idea of how I interact with fandom. I think.

--

Fandom specifics! I tried to make my prompts more specific this year, so hopefully they give a good idea of what I like in each instance, but a few things noted below.

Spooks.

I have watched this show every year since it started airing. I have written a fair amount of fic for it. I talk about it often. I have a couple tags on tumblr for it. I think the idea of the show is often much better than the actual action; I think that characterisation tends to trump plot in canon. It is Very Serious. I would not at all mind a fic that is Not Serious. I've asked for fairly specific things, I know - Ros/Andrew Lawrence (aka Baby!HomeSec) and Tariq&Dimitri. I will take ANYTHING if this is what you choose to write, and I will be oh so grateful in the offing.

King Arthur (2004).

This film is terrible, but I do love it so. Mostly I love Mads Mikkelsen as Tristan, and his wee hawkling (Isolde! I have named the bird. I just have.) Tristan is the heart of my love of this film, but really, Arthur's knights in general are a big draw. Hefty, oft-bearded, sword-fighting tragic warrior souls! Etc. Eeee, just the thought makes me RIDICULOUSLY HAPPY, oh gosh.

Weeds.

How brilliant was Weeds this year? Oh god. And Hunter Parrish - who has never done anything for me before - blew me away with his Sad Silas this year. Silas, Nancy, and Andy are my favourites. I love all the intimacy between them - the love of family, the difficulty of being on the road, the way they want to stick together, want to do their own thing, all grieve Judah, and are so stuck with each other. I love that. Roll with anything, Yuletide Author! I am easily pleased.

Flashbacks of a Fool.

I am going to be terribly lazy and link you to last year's letter because it says everything I want to say, and has some useful links to videos and essays and so on. There is absolutely no way you can mess up if you write this fandom because there is NOTHING out there, and I would love to see ANYTHING. (ANYTHING.)

In sum: thaaaaaaank yooooou! No, seriously, thank you. I hope you enjoy writing what I know I will enjoy reading. I hope that none of the optional details give you indigestion; they're truly optional, and I will take anything whatsoever. I am very grateful. Very!

Much love,

Yuuuuuuuuuuuutide! *\o/*

I haven't even thought about my letter! It was hard enough picking my requests and not missing the deadline. But you have prompted me to action. :)

I almost decided not to sign up, but then I realised how bad I'd feel if I didn't.

!!!! Write a letter! Your author will be happier if you do! Also, I love reading other people's YT letters; that's actually what I was doing when your comment came in, heh.

I almost didn't too, but then I got excited about offering a whole stack of things I've never written before, so at the very least it'll be an exciting ride. Glad you're along for it! Your previous years have been bountiful.

I will, I will! It's just... going to require some thought. I requsted some pretty odd fandoms.

I was just looking at the stats page (number of people who'd requested a fandom versus number of people offering to write it) which gave a pretty decent overview of how rare or not my choices were. I don't normally do that sort of thing.

I am glad you're in, too, because the best part of YT is the combined panic-slash-joy, amirite? Plus, there is no way your letter can be any worse than mine.

I can't even open the stats page - server must be taking a hammering. When I checked last night I was the sole requester of two fandoms, but there were a bunch off offerers, which makes me so excited! How are yours faring?

Oh yeah, combined panic-slash-joy starts now, with the inability to write even a letter! I'll do it in the morning methinks.

Yeah, fifty-fifty, pretty much. One only had one offer, but I'm good with that, too.

Ahaha. Sounds good. Bewarned: shall PROD if you do not :)

Or I could just write it now... DONE. Thanks for the prod. :)

Ah, yuletide. When finding one other person in the world is one more than you expected!
