Criminal Minds was beyond excellent this week! There was a lot about it that I enjoyed, but as always, I only have Emily-meta. I refuse to apologise for this. But do you get the sense she's being groomed? I like how more recently she's being pushed to do these interrogations by herself, whereas before, Emily was always the go-to person for the victim. There are notable exceptions (the EXCELLENT mall abduction episode) but even there she's backed by other people. It's a nice evolution, though she's still very much with Hotch, and not with Derek. I'm not sure it means anything explicitly, but I like the evolution the team is undergoing. I just want to see the wondertwins do their double act again. Few things can beat Reid profiling and Emily emoting in tangent.

I, too, miss the wonder twins, and am hoping after the Foyet thing gets wrapped up and MGG can walk again we'll have an awesome Reid and Prentiss episode.

Yes, I do think Emily is being groomed, because I think Hotch knows that Rossi will retire again at some point in the near-ish future, that Morgan will get promoted to his own team soon-ish, and that Hotch himself may or may not be around. And Prentiss has learned all those lessons Hotch and Gideon were trying to teach without (yet) picking up some of the trauma and not so great coping methods that H&G had. I can see Hotch thinking that Morgan will end up leading a team outside of the BAU, and so Prentiss will be the one who truly ends up inheriting Hotch's job and Hotch's team.

This week was a little weird for me because Emily's competence is so broad that it took me a little while to realise, hell: she has not done this before. She was, for all intents and purposes, green when she started out. And I love her because of her competence, and her attention to detail; I've always seen her as being a more senior agent than she is.

I've liked seeing her next to Hotch this season because they're not-quite equals right now, but even when Emily first started, I always thought of them as being equal in person. They have that similar formality.

Man, the wondertwins. I need them so badly. Two sides of this cerebral coin, like, right-brain/left-brain. I always love watching them together.

I think I love competence more than any other character trait in my characters (self-sacrifice and determination get to tie for a close second, with strong personal ethics pulling in third) and Prentiss has all of those is spades.

Yeah, I tend to think of Prentiss as more senior than she is, which I think is actually something the show is trying to do, because way back in season 1, there was a definite hierarchy where Gideon and Hotch were considerably above the rest of the team, and over the seasons this gap has slowly evaporated.

Hotch and Prentiss always seem to strike the same cord with me. The do have the equal formality and I think they often share a very similar thought process and focus.

(Eventually, I have future!fic where Prentiss steps up into Hotch's shoes and Reid takes over Gideon's role (if, thankfully, not his neuroses) and they run their own team while still being the wondertwins. Someday I will have time to actually write this.)

Yes, exactly that, it's like Prentiss and Reid and both amazingly smart and since they're thinking processes are so different, that when added together they have quadruple the brain power (and the snark.)
