A week ago I made buttercream. I would have made the cupcakes sooner but I was thwarted by issues of time, lack of cases and a lack of margarine. They're fucking awesome though. I'll be off to dish out that buttercream as soon as those long-awaited cakes get cool.

Today was weird. I had a lot to do because the seniors are finally off leave and finally doing their jobs. But then this afternoon I somehow got roped into being the office girl who has to deal with the always-breaking printers. I-- I hate this! My afternoon was slayed by the technician's arrival. On the other hand, I got to impress my line manager's boss with my spelling skills. This is unrelated to the printer thing.

The end of lunch was marked by a conversation we often have in my team: the usage rules for 'effect' and 'affect'. Do you know? I do, but if I didn't already I would have learned for certain today.

Went into town at lunch time to pick up some things and was accosted by the atheist preacher who had taken up the space previously occupied by electronica spaceman. There were a lot of amateur violinists out on the street today, too, but they weren't together so I don't know what that was about.

re: Mad Men, to quote my tweet: DID THAT JUST HAPPEN? Yes. Yes, it did. The show continues to be a favourite of mine and gave out a couple of truly, truly wonderful scenes this week. Goddamn. I need a new icon.

I was going to watch Paris, je t'aime last night but it didn't happen. I'm also on the last episode of Leverage which is kind of exciting! Jeri Ryan's sexy librarian thing is hot. Plus: d'aw, Parker. Continue to be competent, crazy and cute! THANKS.

OH MY GOD NEW NCIS. I'm not sure I'm ready for it. But I waaaaaaaaant it fuck yeah.

...Now there's a sentence I didn't think I'd read today.

(Also, heh, yay for random spelling conversations. Those are always fun. ...Well, they are to me, because I'm a nerd.)

Such is the crazy of Cambridge, yo.

We have them ALL the time in my office. Mostly because TC always forgets which one to use. Then we had to clarify the difference between a noun and a verb for her because she was trying to argue that 'ride' was the verb in 'I took a ride on the bicycle' because I was saying that nouns can be led by 'a/an/the' etc. but verbs can't. (Then we had to explain that took is the verb in that sentence. And it's funny because she's bright but this is the kind of language education we get in this damn country.)

edit: lol, that turned into a little bit of a rant? Unintentional! Was a completely lolsome conversation! (Hiiiii!)

ALSO: that was the day I saw two guys handing out flyers. They were dressed as nondescript superheroes. I...stared. (Can't believe I forgot them!)

I think I would love it there. :)

Hah, no I like your unintentional rants, especially if they're on a subject like this. :) And yeah, it sometimes amazes me how people don't know what a verb is.

SUPPAHEROES! I would have loved to have seen that.

This is wonderful news! Maybe it only works during term time?

Idk. This isn't actually the uni net. ...I don't think so at least. But I'm not looking the gift horse in the mouth! So, all is good.

I'm fine. Chilling out and having a day off. Listening to Haley Bonar on Spotify, yay! And you?

I'm also having a day off! I'm listening to Vampire Weekend and...not doing things! It's a strange but pleasant sensation.

How is Spotify? I looked at it, but wasn't sure whether it was worth it or nay.

(Vampire Weekend, you say? Hmm, added to playlist, must listen, cannot use pronouns.) Not doing things is-- Okay, so, I was going to say "yay", but then it occured to me that, you know, my ability to communicate in any sensible manner cannot be this bad that these are the only sentences I come up with these days. OR IS IT? Well, anyway, I hope it is relaxing! Anything planned for the weekend?

Spotify is surprisingly good. Better than last.fm radio in many ways, including the fact that you get to choose which songs to play and queue them up as you wish. I am kind of hoping that there would also be the randomizing, automatized "find similar tunes" function that is the default in Last.Fm etc (or maybe there is and I just have been unable to locate it yet), but I'm sure I can live without, since there are artist recs still.

(I was JUST introduced to them. Well. Again. I had previously heard Oxford Comma but forgotten about it. Then I danced like a loon until my family caught me.

Haha, I know what you mean. My conversational skills have dwindled to three word answers at best. Oh dear. re: weekend, taking The Sister to university. So. There's that.)

Ah, that's interesting to hear! I'm still on last.fm because I have a subscription, but I might try Spotify and see what happens. I like the radio-ness of last.fm (because I can queue tracks on iTunes if I want to) and I like that it offers me similar artists but I get frustrated by which songs are and which aren't available. I actually only started using last.fm a lot when pandora stopped being available outside the US. That was far less customisable but produced better results. (Have you been to yournextfavband.com? You should try it. I did a long time ago; going to have another dabble in a moment.)
