Oh boy.

So, last Wednesday my laptop started playing up, which is to say: it kept blue-screening me and wouldn't let me turn it on. I managed to fix that by getting it (eventually) to boot from my XP disc and it went well until Sunday night at which point it blue-screened again and then basically died. It looked like one of the partitions had been corrupted so yesterday I ended up doing the thing I didn't want to have to do: I ended up wiping the laptop, formatting the hard drive and re-installing XP. (I'm hoping to make the jump to Linux eventually but first I wanted to make sure it was just the partition that was damaged. That pretty much looks to be the case.)

I managed to find my installation discs but: no sound, and no wireless. That was around the time I realised that, duh, I hadn't installed all the drivers. But what to do: last time I installed drivers I did it straight through the internet and I don't have an Ethernet cable to link up my laptop. I could use the router directly with my laptop (as opposed to the home PC) but it's difficult getting to the right wires etc. So now I've hooked up my external to the PC and I'm downloading drivers from the Dell site onto that. Hopefully I can then plug that into my laptop and get myself sorted out. In the meantime: gr argh.

I spent a couple of hours in a daze at the community centre yesterday morning and then went to the health centre to book an appointment with a doctor. Short story: I have eczema. Really bad eczema. And also I hate my GP

Long story: a couple of years a go I went to get my anaemia sorted out and at that time I chose to see Dr L (my usual doctor is Dr N). I wanted to see Dr L again because Dr N can be an asshole. So I booked to see her on Thursday except I got home and was in so much pain - guys, I can't even begin to explain. So The Mother called up and managed to get me in for 4pm - with Dr N. I re-registered at the health centre (ha, it's only been, what, 8 months?) and then saw Dr N with The Mother in tow (which I'd rather have done without but he's much more pleasant when she's around). Came home armed with c.£40 worth of creams and lotions and emollients and antihistamines. My morning routine now takes an extra hour to complete. That said I slept really, really well, and I'm not so uncomfortable today. Random spikes of irritation/pain in my legs but other than that, I'm doing much better. I'm thinking some of that's psychological, but I don't really care. My lips have dried up, but that started pre-medication, so I'm liberally applying E45 lip balm and hoping they don't decide to play up a la last year.

Lols, Law and Order: UK. Guys: IT'S REALLY GOOD. I mean. It's pretty much L&O but there are plenty of delightful things to it. The guv made a crack about being a Yummy Mummy! The CPS Head is A Bit Wacko! Bradley Walsh totes Jamie Bamber around whilst the latter fights his natural inclination towards RP! Ben Daniels/NICHOLAS BROCKLEHURST still makes for compelling viewing!* MARTHA JONES IS A TRES ATTRACTIVE, TRES SMART YOUNG LAWYER who has chemistry with many people! GUYS IT IS TERRIFIC AND I LOVE IT. I just have to remember that it's on, lols. Chung-chung!

*) [livejournal.com profile] daygloparker, have you seen The State Within? BECAUSE YOU SHOULD PROBABLY GET ON THAT. I'm saying.

Yesterday, whilst waiting for my laptop to purge itself, I watched this week's Being Human. I then freaked out massively about every plot turn. Quick! Someone hold me! Why did they only order up 6 episodes?!

Anyway, am continuing to sort out laptop things; in the meantime I can (should) probably use this time to write my entry for [livejournal.com profile] picfor1000. And maybe consider what I'm going to post for [livejournal.com profile] in_a_name which I almost forgot about. I need to invest in a smartphone already, possibly a G1. I realised that I don't really use the laptop for more than its connectivity these days. Sure, I could do with having a small office package (word, data, maybe a presentation thing) and I like using PS, but I can get those online (well, gDocs, zoho etc.) and I don't know. I need to think about this some more.

Soon to be fixed! Tentative yays!

YES. He's not at all like Brocklehurst: he comes off more like Mark Brydon in a lot of ways. L&O isn't really a show that's good for characterisation until you've seen a few episodes, though, so I reserve judgement. He is tres pretty though.

Ben Daniels, oh man! I kind of love him but I can't get over the fact that I was first introduced to him in a show called "Cutting It" which was so horrendously bad, in that curiously addictive way that it makes your eyes bleed but you still. can't. stop. watching.

*hugs* I'm glad to hear the creams &c are helping with the skin. I hope it gets better.

I saw The State Within when it aired on BBC America way back when, and it's been on my short list for-EVER to re-watch the proper way (I HAVE IT ON DVD AND EVERYTHING). Still, I remembered enough to yell "HELLO, NICHOLAS BROCKLEHURST" on my computer last night when Ben Daniels appeared.

\o/ L&O: UK. Further evidence that, when the dust clears, [livejournal.com profile] daygloparker/Law & Order is basically the once and future OTP. Dick Wolf could do a spin-off about jellyfish solving underwater crime, and I'd be game.

Ohhhh, you must. That show is insanely good - and very Spooks-like, I felt. True story: I was trying to work out how I knew Ben Daniels and I did what I so often do: got him mixed up with Jason Isaac. (The first couple eps of TSW were REALLY CONFUSING for me, lols.)

Have you seen the French CI spinoff? I keep trying to, but am continually thwarted - THWARTED - in my attempts.

HAHAHA, Jason Isaac. For me, it was, "Where do I know him from? WHERE? No, I'm not going to cheat and go to IMDb, I'm going to figure this out on... my... HOMG IT'S LUCIUS MALFOY." (And then I felt like a complete and total idiot that I think I managed to get to Episode 3 before this revelation. I blame it being completely out of context, and also, sans long blond wig?)

Have you seen the French CI spinoff?
I honestly have no idea, which is probably a no. That's always on my (longer) list, too.

(Completely random, but I'm going to see a preview of Jane Fonda's play next weekend, and one of the actors in it was Enwright on Touching Evil (US)! I feel like you can appreciate this nerdy fact.)

I KNOW IT WAS GREAT WASN'T IT?

I wanted to draw hearts around it, lots.

Did you notice the Kudos logo at the end? *headdesk*

I have eczema too, although nowhere near as bad as yours. It's such a pain in the ass. I hope you feel better soon; it sounds awful! And your laptop too! Bad things come in swarms. :(

I understand the laptop woe. I'm glad that it is nearly fixed.

More importantly, I'm glad your skin is getting treated. I've got hyperpigmentation and Keratosis Pilaris on the back of my thighs so I can understand the lotioning and the like. I'm sorry you experience such discomfort though. That's horrible. I hope that everything works out for you.

Yeah, and I'm better today, too, even though I went at my legs last night (shameface) because I made sure to moisturise quickly. My arm is playing up but again: still much better. Hopefully I'll be done with this soon.

Oh man. I love him because he's so atypically brit in his roles sometimes. Btw, did I mention: I knew I knew Anna Torv before Fringe! She played a lesbian in the first season of Mistresses which, whilst not a show I watched, I did see an episode of. She was GREAT.

Man, my sympathies. Mine got bad because, um, it got a little infected. Ew. But yes, I'm glad it's getting better, lols.

I know, the damn thing! And I love it, too, so I don't really want to part with it, heh.

Yeah, or not; still grasping for solutions, heh. I hope yours holds it together.

I'm feeling better since I started using the emollients and the doctor finally began the process of referring me to a dermatologist so hopefully I can deal with this in an effective way. The backs of my thighs are the worst for my eczema, too, so I sympathise. (I look like an idiot because I can't always see where I need to apply the more specific lotions - bent over double, looking at a mirror from between my legs. Possibly that was tmi but hopefully the visual gives you more lol than does not want.

Unrelatedly: omg Watchmen!
