I just watched Elegy (the film based on Phillip Roth's The Dying Animal that I have been waiting to see for quite some time now) and C4 is apparently going to show Venus in an hour. Sometimes the stars align, people.

Elegy is beautiful, and as enthralling as all the pre-lit said it would be. It's a film that is full of silence, whilst the book is full of talk, and I liked the balance established between Kingsley's Kepesh and Cruz's Consuela. The direction is stark and open, and the intimacy that is established is very touching. I'm not sure that I can watch Venus so soon after this, but I also think that is a very different film. We shall see.

I also watched Merlin today, and whilst I don't want to go into detail here I will say that I loved it from start to finish, and it was exactly what I wanted from the episode.

Earlier today I cleaned my room and fought with BBC's iPlayer so that I could watch a documentary on Wayne McGregor's first work as the Royal Ballet's Resident Choreographer. The piece was called Infra and debuted earlier this month. The first half of the documentary followed the construction process - concept, music, stage and choreography - and the second half showed the finished production. It was truly amazing to watch and no doubt I'll be hitting up iPlayer again some time in the following week. It was quite different to anything else that I'd ever seen from ballet. It was remarkable.

Russell Howard last night was hilarious. I wasn't too keen on the support act, but I like my humour more funny, less crass. But Howard himself was whip-smart and so quick on his feet. The encore was just insane. (I really hate hecklers, by the way, but Howard was on the ball there, too.) A great evening, and hopefully I'll be able to go back to the theatre again after Christmas so that I can see something (or someone) else.

I've tried updating a number of times this week but I just don't have anything to update about, hence youtube videos and memes. I'm trying to see if I can rip some fanfiction from my ribcage but so far, so fail. Hahaha, yuletide is going to fuck me over, lols.

Date: 2008-11-30 11:25 pm (UTC)The support act was a guy called Steve Hall (I think?) He did have some good jokes, but overall I felt he was a bit meh.
