OH GOD. So, I've watched up to Recoil (I'd keep going but T wants to watch X-Files). I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY. And not just about Ziva, surprisingly. But let's get some of the Ziva stuff said anyway. Things that I will eventually talk buckets about: Jethro's treatment of Ziva in comparison to his treatment of Kate's disillusionment way back in S1/S2 [and compare to his treatment of Tim at the end of Probie, oh god, oh god]; his fear for her in the moment when he and Tim enter the warehouse; Ziva's PTSD; Tony's assholeness and Jeanne Benoit (not to mention the evolution of the Tony&Ziva relationship, especially at the end of the Grenouille-based episode); what Ziva's lack of self-faith means for Jethro in terms of Ari (oh come on, everything leads back to Kill Ari Part 2 - how can it not?); how Jethro himself has changed and what that means for Ziva.

Other things: Jethro, Jenny and Tobias, and the circle that never seems to end; the introduction of the Deputy Director (you know what that means); Jethro, Ducky and Abby re: that freaking dog; Jethro and McGee; Ziva's glee over knives; Jenny and Jeanne's face structures; the non-resolution of the Grenouille plot (oh, you know that's coming back); and Jethro's speech to Ziva in the morgue (compared, again, to Tim in the morgue and Kate in the morgue. It's a special space in all that darkness). Can I just take this moment to say that I love the make-up on Ziva this week? The death-eyes, with that thin line of dark under-eye make-up and the swathes of lighter shade? (Also: Jethro says - twice, goddammit - I don't need to see you here - which, if this was a different Ziva and a different Jethro could feed into their S3 relationship in a hugely different way. But. Well. Things have happened since then. Hiatus and Shalom have happened since then.)

I haven't gone back to read people's reaction posts to Recoil yet but I'm pretty certain the big things people are going to be hyped up on are (a) so, is Ziva suddenly not an assassin (speech with Locke in bed which, dude, she was just touchy about the subject CAN YOU BLAME HER?) and (b) she's killed before, so what's the deal??? The deal is exactly what she says to Jethro, and exactly the intimacy of the moment that she keeps re-living. So close to death. And death is her shadow to some extent. The last two people she killed? The guy in Jeopardy and ARI. Guys. It's ALL LINKED.

The shame of it is that Tony is actually really interesting when he's just being plain mean because it's so rare to see that. Fuck yes.

I can - and WILL - talk about the above until the cows come home but I have to go and be social now.
