Today is my eljayversary! Aw. I've been talking rubbish online for four years now. The sheer oddness of this has not escaped me. I feel like I should do something momentous but instead I'm going to ask: guys, how the fuck do you buy appropriate foundation?? I end up buying three or four and mixing them with cream and stuff just to get the fucking thing right. And I kind of hate standing there in Boots or wherever looking at the foundations because the women who work there - MY GOD VULTURES ALL OF THEM. So. Yeah. How does one go about this business? I don't even wear foundation all that often but I figure I should for graduation which is two months away yet, but I'd like to be prepared. Also, there's a wedding before then so it'll come in useful.

So, I finally conquered the goddamn university printers and printed out/handed in my final assignment. I think it went okay. I'm not too bothered because I covered all my bases, and it was a really interesting topic. This afternoon there's an English dept. gathering (I believe 'cheese' was mentioned) so we're going to that. I have an exam at the end of the month so I need to prep for that but I'm finding that I am running out of Real things to do.

Naturally this is BRILL because it means I can read stuff. FOR MYSELF. ! Smashing.

Hahahaha, it's [livejournal.com profile] ncis_newsletter's anniversary today (well technically yesterday, dates and all, but I'm bad at time zones and crap) too! Happy anniversary, may you stay for ages longer!

Woo, anniversary!

Ugh, foundation is such a pain, isn't it? I had never worn any until two years ago when my mum took me to a MAC make-up counter and they tested my skin and told me what would look best. But most of the time I don't like wearing it because I just hate how it feels, even though I like how not-dead it makes me look, aha. I'm thinking about trying out Lily Lolo mineral foundation now though, which is a powder that says it covers as well as a liquid foundation and apparently you don't feel it when it's on. Plus, it's all natural and not full of chemicals. You can get samples of their stuff from about 25p to 99p on the site, so I figure it's worth a try.

PS. Your layout is so fantastic right now.

Happy LJAnniversary! *pompoms*

If you ever find out the secrets to buying foundation, do let me know. :) This coming from someone who has been an addicted user for close enough to a decade (my skin is one of my biggest Issues, so I like to hide it). I, too, do sometimes mix two shades, or add moisturiser to adjust thickness. I hear you should try it on your jawline, just there at the edge of the bone, to get the right colour. As for texture, it depends entirely on how made-up you want to look, but it's easier to go thinner than thicker. When I was teenaged, I used to wear Maybelline but thankfully quickly came to the realisation that their foundations are too thick and make me look like I have plaster on my face. Nowadays I'm partial to L'Oreal's Infallible or True Match because they're light but still covering enough.

Yeah, make-up sellers are kind of scary. Except when you actually need them, in which case they're never anywhere to be found.

Huzzah for final essay! And I hope you had a good time at the gathering.

...And yes, I just spent an (almost) entire comment talking about make-up. That's some sort of scary.

Happy anniversaaaary! :D *dances*

I'm not sure how I get foundation. Having someone there with you is helpful. You could also go to a department store and go to a counter that sells one you want and someone could help you find the right one. It's really just more helpful to have someone else there who has a good eye. And I heard trying it on the top of your hand will help get the right shade, but you really have to open up the bottle and try a little, because the colour looks different on than in the bottle.

Oh, I forgot to add.
Neutrogena, I don't know if you can buy it where you live, but it's the best for your skin and keeping your skin healthy. Clinique is also fantastic for your skin. Also be careful about mineral makeup because I know that's the new hip thing to buy, it's not good for your skin. May be good for the environment, but it's not very good for your skin. You should only use mineral makeup if you are prone to break-outs of zits or pimples. I remembered that another place to test makeup shades is on your neck.

Happy anniversary! (late as per usual, *sigh*)

I hardly ever wear foundation, but if I absolutely have to, I wear mousse foundation - I hate the liquid stuff, it makes my skin feel incredibly tight. So try mousse.

And yeah, like someone's said below, go to Superdrug, the assistants don't bother you there.

Okay, dunno if this is too late, but as regards foundation, L (you know I have no idea!) says:

if you go to the makeup counter at John Lewis (called prescriptives - they do a really good concealer, but you'd have to ask about foundation. Then again, if you've got a good concealer, do you need the foundation? So many decisions...) heard they will mix one up especially for you - pretty cool, huh? - but its about £15, so it depends on how much you wanna spend on it...

~~ L's friend says they are totally worth the investment cos they last for ages and they give a nice even skin tone, with good coverage.

However, Mac are also good (as tested by L) cos they test your skin for you and also have a good range... and Clinque are good, but on the expensive side, but its good for your skin, as long as its not too thick.

Maybelline will do nothing for your skin.

Ok, hope that helps ... if it doesn't then remember it came from L and not me!

See ya, xx
