So, long story short, I've had the relative locations of NYC, Baltimore and Washington DC mixed up all these years. Suffice to say, my world was realigned tonight.
I am embarrassed! But also: my world view has changed dramatically. I'm not saying I was all that good with American geography to begin with (um, for ages I thought Seattle was close to Chicago. DON'T ASK) but I thought, you know, I take a look at these three places quite often. I SHOULD KNOW THESE THINGS. And the conversation was horrific. "Wait, New York is south of Washington, right?" "No, Meisha." "--YOU'RE KIDDING ME." "No, Meisha." "But--" "No, Meisha."
I believe they did a survey once and a scary number of Americans didn't even know *what city* was our nation's capital, much less where it was on a map.
Ow. My countrymen. How they wound me.
Meisha can you make some room in the UK for me? At least there I warrant they don't believe the Queen is *actually* in charge of running the country. /facepalm/
And FWIW, the eastern seaboard of the US is very confusing. Don't even get me started on Delaware...
