{ Torchwood, 2x02, Sleeper. }
Jan. 23rd, 2008 09:56 pmSo, Shitwood. Not actually so shit this week? ODDNESS. (I think it helps a LOT that Ianto has quit being as wet as a fish on a good day.)

The show post-Shitwood was apparently about a man who eats BADGERS. GOD. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD. ???

Date: 2008-01-23 10:14 pm (UTC)Jack's cocklife, but several of the moments were just... weird. Is that what sex does to people, makes them prone to outbursts of unreasonable OOCness?I was kind of bored in this episode, I have to say, (unless Ianto was on screen, 'cause I'm easy). I think that's because, unlike most of fandom, I actually enjoy watching the team together. I was surprised they almost ended the world this early, though. But I liked the guest actress.
(My mum was all: "... how are they going to clean this up for the repeat tommorrow?!". I agree: how in the world?).
/wordy. Sorry. Ianto being dry and witty does things to me. Or maybe that was just the subtle insinuation that he was having sex with Jack in his office.

Date: 2008-01-23 10:20 pm (UTC)Well, I don't know if that's "most of fandom" or "Meisha", although I felt the team was gelled pretty well this week? So. (To be fair, I actually have issues with character-based episodes in most fandoms. Unless I like the character. In which case I am UNBEARABLE and make lots of posts about said character and their
not-so-AWESOME traits. Check a box next to hypocrite, pluz.)I was expecting MARTHA. And then she wasn't there. So. End-of-the-Worlding doesn't surprise me. But then, I'm rewatching Buffy, so.
(Maybe they won't show all the blood? I-- I don't know. They clean it up?)
Hahaha, the EYES thing they do genuinely cracks me up. Ianto, I am so pleased that you have stopped being an annoying twat.
edit: a PARTICULARLY lolarious part was when Ianto was mock-phoning. "Hello, is anyone there?" I felt that this was particularly lolsome because it was a Gag and not a character gag, although I don't think anyone but Ianto!actor (Gareth?) could have pulled it off so well.

Date: 2008-01-23 10:30 pm (UTC)I believe I've seen around fandom that some people don't like watching the whole team, but, yeah. I like thier banter, and thier interplays, and even Gwen isn't quite as loathesome when she's playing Good Cop to Jack's Bad Cop.
I'm pretty much the same, I think, but for a different reason. I prefer to see an ensemble episode, rather than going into the backstory of one specific character. Because otherwise I'm all "WHY DIDN'T [other character] GET MORE SCREENTIME?".
I totally forgot Martha was going to be in at some point this season. \o/!
(Apparantly, for last week's episode, they edited out all talk of drugs and rehab, and the scene where Jack was snapped over that bench, but left the scene with John and Ianto in it's entirety? Despite it being little more than gratituous gun porn? So, basically: who knows.)
I literally started squealing when Ianto followed Jack out. GAY BUMSEX: JACK'S OFFICE. \o/!
I think that was my favourite moment of the episode. And, yeah, it was probably only Gareth David-Lloyd who managed pulling that one off, because he did it with a (mostly) straight face.
One thing I forgot to mention, but feel like mentioning now: I like seeing Ianto poking fun at Jack, for once. It makes them feel more... well, more equal. Which, in turn, makes thier relationship a whole lot less creepy.

Date: 2008-01-23 10:41 pm (UTC)Hahaha, see, I quite like Gwen, even when I want to slap her? Mostly because she can be as daft as a bloody doorknob, but also because I feel like she would be one of those girls that I would be friends with whilst secretly being annoyed with how self-serving they are. And then we'd make crispy cakes together, and I'd ignore the annoying part.
[WOW. I am so CHATTY right now. And GIDDY. Wtf self?]
Hahaha. I also tend to like team-focused episodes because they tend to be more case-driven? And. OK, so I may or may not have a thing with the way exposition scenes are directed (which is STUPID because exposition scenes tend to be the most boring for, well, the ENTIRE population).
I WANTS HER.
(They REPEAT the show with a clean version? When?? WHY??? [I find the choices these people make are so ODDNESS-filled.])
Also: I am not attracted to Ianto in any way but his attire is damn fetching. (I think it's the waistcoat that does it. I find waistcoats - when worn well - VERY fetching.)
The timing was not off! The joke was snarky but appropriate! The delivery was clean! \o/
Yes. Yes yes. Although, sigh. I still don't really buy that relationship? I mean, on Ianto's side? It just gels ODDLY.

Date: 2008-01-23 10:58 pm (UTC)I mostly did my facepalming when Jack was shouting at that poor girl. I was of the opinion that Jack can't just abduct people like that. That whole situation made me uncomfortable.
I liked Gwen more during this episode than the last one. I think I have the ability to love her when she's well-written, and not saving the day / cheating on her boyfriend. But, yeah. I feel like we could be friends, but I'd internally loathe her for being so... so her! *throws hands up in air*
What are exposition scenes, exactly? I mean, I know they're scenes where things get explained but. Can you give me an example from this episode? (That sounds quite silly of me, but it's a case of "I know what this is, but I can't recognise it").
MARTHA = MADE OF WIN.
(Yeah. Apparantly. Tommorrow at 7pm. For kids. Which makes no sense, because Torchwood is primarily aimed at adults. Why edit an adult show for children? Because it's a spin-off from a children's series, I suppose. But, even so. Apparantly, they leave the gay kissing in, and whilst I think that this is a capital idea, it apparantly unnerves parents and children, possibly making children less likely to want to watch it, and definately making parents less likely to let them, thus rendering the whole exercise utterly pointless).
I am not particularly attracted to him either, but all it takes is a combination of that waistcoat, and that dry wit, and I go weak at the knees and start drooling on the carpet.
Thier relationship was... odd. I think RTD was trying to force it, to be honest, because he wanted to let the BBC know exactly what they were recommissioning. I suppose he thought we would fill in the blanks, and assume that, I don't know, Jack and Ianto had something going on prior to Lisa's death. Or that Ianto just... fell in love. It happens, I guess. But perhaps not when the man you're falling in love with shot your girlfriend through the head.
... damn. Now I want to write Jack/Ianto backstory. MAKE IT STOP.

Date: 2008-01-23 11:13 pm (UTC)She was a sympahetic character this week, doing the thing that I thougt was sort of the point of her character when she was introduced but then turned out not to be? I mean: she was being the Human element. And I like that on her because, like you said, not being a cheating cow.
GOOD QUESTION. Haha, no, it's basically a scene where they set up all the off-screen information so the audience is up to speed. So, when the team (minus Gwen) is talking about the last time they used that machine? That was exposition: explaining the machine without just explaining it. Also: the scene in last week's episode where they're in the cab chasing Jack, and in the space of 15 seconds Gwen recaps the state-of-affairs since the end of S1 (typical Jack, disappears, turns up, don't even know his real name... That was a particularly ANNOYING exposition scene. But crime shows are pretty skillful at it sometimes, and the thing with the torture chair this week was interestingly done).
Martha will turn up soon and be hott with everyone, yay. Martha/Tosh, anyone? They'd be a not-dysfunctional couple, yay. (Am a bit excited that next week has Tosh Doing Stuff. Because. Well. Tosh! Being used to do things that aren't: trotting around in those darling heels of hers; being a sap over Owen; looking at computery things.)
(Again: WHY. Answer: MORONCITY.)
Hee. Well. We all have our markers. :) :) :)
It was just...rushed. And I didn't buy the robot love either, so who knows. Anyway, as I said, yay for not being a DRIP anymore.
FIRST MEETINGS. You are a flister. If you wrote it, I WOULD READ IT. (Um. Otherwise I don't touch TW fic with a looooong-ass stick?)
