Here's a typical conversation that I have at least once a day with a handful of friends.
Me: Hey, that's so cool. I love how it does that *hand motions* thing!
Friend: Huh? Oh. Thanks for pointing that out. *changes*
Me: Wait-- what? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Friend: It wasn't supposed to be doing that. Thanks for letting me know.
Me: But now it's not doing, you know.
Friend: It's not supposed to. Wait, you thought I'd want it to do that?
Me: I thought you were being ironic! It was ironic commentary!
Friend: Oh. I can change it back, if you want.
Me: No. It's okay. I can deal with it being not-ironic, accidental.
[ pause ]
Friend: Seriously, if it matters that much--
Me: NO. IT'S OKAY. I GET IT, I'M WEIRD.
[ bigger pause ]
Friend: Damn. All that post-modern shit is really messing with you, isn't it?
I have a variation on this conversation every day, with someone new in my circle of people. Apparently I find a lot of things unintentionally ironic. Actually, this happens a lot with userpics. I'm all "oh, you're making a comment on how people are really into that fade-to-black setting right now," and people are all, "wait, what?", and I'm all, "you know, disembodied heads?" and they're all, "WAIT. WHAT?" and then I have to screencap their icons for them and they flip out, all, "YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO SEE THAT!" To which my general response is, "BUT YOU'RE BEING IRONIC!" and I get a reply along the lines of, "NO, I FUCKING WELL AM NOT, HELP ME CHANGE IT!" Then I feel sad because not only was it not a piece of ironic commentary, but I made the other person feel bad, like I was actually trying to subtly point out some sort of defect in their icon making skills WHICH WAS NOT MY INTENTION, OKAY, I'M NOT THAT MUCH OF AN ASSHOLE. Which you get, I know. But. Still.

The Postpeople didn't come with my goodies. SIGH. Although I did get an email saying to expect my stuff on Thursday. I damn well hope that's the longshot and it all turns up tomorrow because otherwise I will not be a very happy Meisha.
