Today was odd. The Rents went to this Rotary Club thing and left The Sister and me at home. We decided we'd have pizza his evening so went into town to buy pizza bases &c. Whilst walking we talked about: fandom, the weirdness of some pairings and the craziness that is Doctor Who. (The wank is still going, oy, possibly because broadcast is spreading slowly through the world via Those Means.) In fact the walk back basically involved my sister talking and my randomly inserting, "Maaaaarfaaaaa!" into the conversation. Good times.

The rents returned earlier than expected and so we lounged about before making the evening meal. I am now about to watch the second episode of Deadwood which I already love. (Amusingly, ITV3 showed an episode of The Magnificent Seven today and it had PETER FIRTH in it. I've seen the episode before but I didn't realise he was in it. This must have been back when he was doing the circuit in the US because I'm pretty certain he's been on an episode of L&O, too.)

Whilst chopping veg for said pizza, Rod Stewart was singing for tha Diana concert that's been on all damn day. Maggie! And then my favourite: Baby Jane. Yay.

I love your random comments on music. And your recs. I downloaded The Littlest Birds a while ago when you posted it and the first time I listened, I didn't like it and turned off partway through. Then it came on shuffle, I didn't know what it was, and fell in lvoe. It's so pretty. And Alison/Gillian collaborations are wonderful.

Deadwood is the best show I've ever seen. I mean it; I was blown away by the setting, the characters, and the lilt of language use. It also has my favorite ship ever.

Neruda!

I got all but two words of the Spanish version and one of them I guessed pretty closely.

I don't speak Spanish, but I love knowing enough of a foreign language to appreciate poetry in its native tongue. Novels tend to translate okay, but poetry loses so much when the original words - their cadence, sounds, flavor - are lost when only one layer of meaning is carried over into the next tongue.

The first time I heard The Littlest Birds in full was when I was collecting the Grey's soundtrack and I tended to skip past it. Then T, with whom I live, fell for it and played it as soon as she woke up for a whole two months. Really makes the da seem sunny and alive! So now I love it.

Am slowly milling through the episodes (slowly because I'm using the TV to watch the, not the laptop - much better quality of viewing, but more interruptions from family) but I'm so glad you recommended it to me because it's a brilliant show. I'm already rooting around for the second season DVDs.

And now I was checking this lj and I found out that you're a fan of Neruda. And I had to post something because: I'm from Chile and everytime I read someone that loves his work, it makes me really proud (maybe I'm a cheese-ball, but it's true).

Hello! Always nice to speak to new people.

I love Neruda; I think he has such a gracious way with words, and moreso with sentiment. There is a simple quality to the adoration expressed in his verse that I love so much. (Not a cheese-ball! )
