Was so productive today, which was new. Avenue had some books I needed which is where I figured out what my question was actually asking me; got there at 10am, got kicked out at 1pm (Avenue opening hours are fucked up). Headed over to Hartley, found more stuff that I needed, got back at 3.30pm. What I need to do now is collect evidence from my two texts (Stein's Melanctha and James' The Aspern Papers) and re-read Eagleton's The Revolt of the Reader so that I can write out a proper plan. The idea is to write half tomorrow (or more, if I can) and then finish on Monday.
The essay topic is actually interesting now that I've decoded it and (sort of) know what I'm doing. I still don't really know how I'm going to answer it but that's what the plan will help with.

Fandom, yay.
OK, back door pilot, random and amusing. I like dealing with characters that are slightly older and yet no different to the interns. It helps that Shonda Rimes has picked up the best of the cast-out actors (that is, actors who have been in every other show almost ever) so the ensemble is fun to see together). I don't really give a shit about Addison's woe, even though I like her as a character. Her emotional state has never really interested me, though, and seeing Timy Daly swoon over her was not really what I needed to see. BUT: Amy Brenneman! She and Paul Adelstein have wonderful onscreen chemistry, so that was fun.
Ugh, McDreamy was being a dick last week and now he has more of an excuse to be more of one. Jeff Perry and Ellen Pompeo rocked that scene with the two of them. I'm sad, though, because I like Mer when she's happy, and whilst I like her when she's angsty, season 2 was a world of woe in that respect because I felt for her a lot. She can't get any peace! Also: fake!mommy's death was so ridiculously gratuitous and was inserted basically to prove that Mer is Not Allowed to be happy, to which I say: WHATEVER.
I have that same response to the Izzie/George/Callie triangle of yawn. I'd probably care more if Izzie wasn't so selfish and plain rude, but: WHATEVER.
Other than that, Bailey and Cristina were both fabulous as ever, Burke and The Mothers were annoying, and McSteamy's man pain can go screw itself. Alex can stay, though, because I love him more and more.
Which is to say: I liked the episode. I was actually more invested in the Grey's half than the shh!pilot part, and Mer's story was my favourite. I need to stop using colons.

Also, Mack? Whatever. You and your wife should not be together. You cheat on one another annoyed about it, cover up your lies and whatever, and then try to kill people or, WHATEVER. I like Mack's character a lot, and this doesn't change that so much, but it doesn't stop me from being really, really annoyed by this couple. I get the sense that they're the kind of couple that is electric together when things are going well and a mess when things aren't, but I wish this was less of them going in circles and more, well, progress.
Also: WHAT THE FUCK, TIFFY?
Bob and Kim suddenly have chemistry which is the strangest thing ever. Actually, watching Scott Foley act is hilarious because he plays Bob in this very sharp, earnest way but he also plays him as the kind of guy who doesn't emote even a little bit when he's around his wife, lol. Except that's the second episode in the past three where the two of them have been seen to be making their marriage work. And it does work, mostly because even though Bob is as guilty as the others for not communicating about things the wives want to talk about, he does talk to Kim a lot. The scene in the bathroom was evocative of a similar scene in the flashback episode earlier this season. When he can't come to a decision over something that he can actually talk to his wife about, Kim helps him to untangle the knots. I love that about them and it's nice to see this season because zjetz knows we weren't getting it before.

I have CSI, CSI:NY, Criminal Minds, Bones, Numb3rs and The Black Donnellys to watch. I'll probably watch one of the CSIs or Numb3rs tonight and then shore up fr when the essay is done.

Date: 2007-05-05 04:56 pm (UTC)And they always look at Kim like she's going to be a threat to security and Tiffy's the one being a fuck up. And it's not like Ryan is going to do anything about it as they had sex. Grargh.
Someone should have told me Stephen Fry was on Bones. Just saying.
