{ SG-1, 10x09; SG:A, 3x09. }
Sep. 20th, 2006 05:17 pmI think we've already covered how traumatised I was by the POINT-BLANK KILLING but it bears repeating: *traumatised*
Other than that, yet another bog standard episode. I am of the belief that Ben Browder has lost all ability to act, or he couldn't in the first place and landing the gig as Crichton was a fucking lucky break. Anyway. Come on already! Give us a plot! One that we can give a damn about!
Holy shit.
Much love for Carson having shit to do, John's flashback (omg backstory!), and Lizzie's hair. Also: Zelenka! (Sidenote: Elizabeth was the queen of exposition in that first scene. Damn).
Teyla is sorely underused. This needs to be rectified already. How amazing was she?
And the plot! At first I thought it was going to be like that SG episode when they couldn't go too far from the light because they were addicted to it, and then it became, like, an evolution of that and was totally awesome. Why didn't I watch this over the weekend?! Carson's side-story was so brilliant, especially as I didn't anticipate that final double-take when the sergeant turned out to be dead. Rodney's was more obvious, but I liked how that worked out. The build up to the climax, with everyone in front of everyone else, each one hallucinating something different, that was amazing. And Teyla! I was annoyed because until the conclusion she had shit all to do, but then when she's all "you have to help me get in there!", that was so good to watch. Her desperation was tangible. That was the first time in ages that she's had something real to do.
The best part of this episode, though, was the way that Sheppard's backstory got told without it being told per se. That was remarkably smart. What is with the subtleties on Sheppard's part this season? Not that I'm complaining.
"I can't believe you shot me!" WHO ELSE IN THE HISTORY OF TV HAS SAID THIS LINE? I can't remember and it's really bugging me.
In conclusion, I would totally prefer it if the military in this damn show would use, you know, actual military slang and not just the code jargon.
