Aieeee! I've discovered a whole portion of the crazy-ass Atlantis fandom who either hate Weir so bad that they wish she'd just die, or completely neglect her existence. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. Ok, yes, I'm so very much a Weir-fangirl (and a weird one, yes, yes, hah hah) but I still don't understand why people have this reaction to her! At least I can work out the reasons for the Amita/Lindsay/Ziva-hate-age. Weir hate? DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE.

AND! Today I finally read that HP-wankery that someone posted at journal fen - you know, the one the whole world is on about concerning the sockpuppet ljs and the general asshattery of fandom. Thank god for not being part of the crazies. Like, ever. THANK GODZ FOR SOLITARY CRAZINESS. Because it's so much less aieeee over here. No, really. Because why else would I be a mod for a community I defriended over spoiler issues?

well... i don't like her. it was a process. at first i thought it was wicked cool to have her as the leader (for feminist reasons, before i even got the feel of the character). then i was sort of meh about her for a few eps before i started to like her (particularly in one ep, can't recall which though). and then she just started to get on my nerves, which i suspect is mostly the writers' fault, with the icky schweir (and yes, i don't like him much either, though i used to) and the lame writing. it was mostly a meh sort of feeling but there was an ep where i totally hated her, i don't remember the name but it was the one where she OKayed torture. because, fuck that. that got me really pissed. and for all her supposedly being civilian and expert on negotiation etc, i got some rather fascist vibes from her, not just in that ep. i'm not the best person for SGA love ATM, i guess i'm bitter. i loved S1 so much, particularly the latter half, and then S2 just had so many uuuuuugh eps i couldn't take it any more. that's just me though.
as for the other girls - it's news for me people hate amita... but then i haven't watched any S2, could be the writers have ruined her as well.
ziva... didn't like her at first but she's alright once you get over her horrible hebrew. i still miss kate though.

See, maybe it's just the fact that I really like the character which makes me blind everything else about her because I always get the sense that unless you're actively looking for a fannish interaction with Weir, you can pretty much ignore her existence. I do agree that S2 was not as awesome as S1. This does not stop me from wanting more, though. It is not a serious fandom for me. Mostly because I'm hiding from the crazies, of which there are many.

Man, Amita hate is all the rage. I don't hate her; I adore her. But I am a minority. Well, amongst the fandom people that I know. There's even a comm! It's called Amita_sucks or some such. Sigh. Whatever. I just...stay away from there. And the people for the most part are lovely people. They just have serious Amita hate.

I quite like Ziva. I do miss Kate because I really quite liked her character, finicky though she could be. Hee. I will most likely have my NCIS marathon this weekend (am currently stocking up on episodes...)

hmm, i don't know about ignoring her existence. i'm not really in the SGA fandom other than ripping stuff for people and reading the occasional fic, but i've read some fics where she was pretty great as a supporting character.
as for amita- but she's got such a smile, how can anyone hate someone with a smile like that? did she get mary sued? did she get involved with don or charlie? because that usually gets people hating on female characters.
you know who i hate? OMG lana. she had maybe one ep where she was alright. the rest of it made me want to gouge my eyes out.
yay for the NCIS marathon! i've got some extras if you're interested. and... an amusing(?) dossier of "facts" from the eps.

I think part of the Weir hate comes from 1) she doesn't have the much of a character, which the writers have finally figured out, 2) her episode was boring, and 3) sci-fi fans expect her to lead like Captain Picard, but instead she leads like an actual U.S. diplomat would lead. As far as my personal opinion on her, I like her and wish that they would give her more to do.

The HP wankery is insane. It makes me very thankful that I just happily lurk around the edges of fandoms, occasionally posting fics that people like, reading fics that I like and, you know squeeing over things.

(And can you tell that I've finished my exams? - I'm going to be annoying commenting on my friends list far more now).

I am, once again, incredibly pleased that for some reason, I have managed to avoid the crazies in the Atlantis fandom or any other fandom for that matter. Staying in your own, tiny, soft corner helps. ... *pets her corner* ...

Aaah you discovered THAT part of fandom...

*sporks them*

Idiots...Torri rocks and therefore Weir rocks and there's nothing they can do about it - whining doesn't help...

See, this is where my naivete comes in, I think, because for characters like that I always assume you can pretty much ignore them if you don't like them.

Before I Sleep was one of my favourite characterisation episodes, however slow it was, if only because it cemented this idea of kinship between her and the city that's different to the one between Sheppard and the city. But then again, I'm a pretty big Weir fangirl so I'm probably seeing this from a skewed perspective.

She does need more to do. I think the issue is that she was brought in like a Hammond-esque figure and then given 10% more to do so people expect more from her but she doesn't deliver. Wake up writers!

I have read all the HP books and I still detest J K Rowling. I read the books under duress (there was a dare involved, lolz) but I do read fanfiction. [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project specifically, and some odds and ends I found at BSO. But I know the fandom is insane.

(Hahaha, bring it on :P )

I wonder what the view is like from there? ;)

No, now that I know where to avoid, I will continue to blissfully ignore the many, many crazies.

Ha! My confusion is because I'm so not an active fandom member. I won't stand up to bat, so to speak. If I don't like someone, I just ignore them, so I get confused when other people don't do the same. LOL.

I think my problem is that because I ignore anybody I don't give a damn about, it bewilders me when others don't do the same. So basically, the whole world revolves around ME, mwhahahahaha!

Amita's smile is much love. The Charlie/Amita front is being played with; a lot of (slash) fans dislike that. You'll have to judge for yourself as to other things. I spent most of the season either staring at Don or musing over the fabulous new camera work. And paying homage to Larry, of course.

Hahaha, is this SV? Because never saw it, thankfully. Even though I loved Michael Rosenbaum from that comedy he used to do with Azura Skye and Selma Blair (Zoe, DUncan, Jack and Jane).

Oooh...am intrigued!

I adore shoebox_project and the Remus/Sirius pairing in general and I love the books as well. But the fandom is insane *backs away slowly from it*

I just like to lurk around in Spooks/Doctor Who/West Wing/Pirates of the Carribeanean (for which I have an OT4) and perve on the pretty.

hmm. i dislike the charlie/amita front but not because of the slash, but because he was (is?) her thesis guide and it's really creepy to me (thinking of mine, etc). still, it wouldn't make me hate her, i'd still her on the power of ravi's smile alone. god you mentioned don which made me think about don's jeans and really i should DL S2 and get on it.
and yep, SV!

here are some of the NCIS extras: (last one's still upping)

OK, so, rapidshare hates me. Thanks anyway! Much love :)

Ha, I know a girl called Ravi, too. And Ravi is also my uncle's name. But it's said differently. Like, the girl is Ravvi and my uncle is Ruh-vi. Did that make any sense?

I would like Charlie and Amita more as a pairing if they weren't so...hmm. They lack chemistry these days. 'Tis a shame.

Don's jeans make the fangirl beam with happiness. Just saying :D

hey, someone re-upped to sendspace on [livejournal.com profile] ncisepisodes. and yes, the ravi thing makes sense, i've heard it pronounced both ways.
how about don/amita? i used to like charlie/terri but that's all gone now.

Oh excellent, thanks for the heads-up.

I've read a few Don/Amita fics recently; I like the pairing, and I love all that nervous tension in the pilot episode. (That look MEANT something and you will not persuade me otherwise, lol).

I never thought of Charlie/Terry. I guess that's because I have no imagination saw them in all of two personal scenes together. Man. I miss Terry Lake, though. As awesome as the new cast members are...I miss the old school.

Ah, but see, I think Charlie's flower thing is like the mathematical equivalent to a pick-up line. (He does the same thing for Megan, dammit!) That being said, damn you for being so persuasive. Now I can't stop thinking about it.

...where are my season 1 disks? lol
