Dude. Tennant can't pull really pull off that bipolar quality of Ecclestone's happy-for-one, pissed-for-the-next Nine but I think it works out in other quirks. He's definitely got "chipper" down, that's for sure. I think the best lineof the episode goes to Zoe Wannamaker's character - the chav line was fabulous.

Next week: Queen Victoria and Werewolves? The hell?

Why are the new episodes only 45 minutes long?

Oh yeah, that's always been the way. I like Ten as ten...it's just that the people who wrote Nine are writing Ten and they haven't made any personality shifts in the way he speaks/acts/responds to things. And that's not what Ten should necessarily be about, you know?

Still, chavtastic is a word that should be in general usage already. Because, yo!

I imagine it's 45 mins so they sell it to American without the need for advert breaks editing a la Spooks.

See, I thought so too but then I thought, well, they're airing episodes in the US right now (they've just done Dalek) ad they don't edit them. It just seems a bit stupid to me that they're pandering to the Americans when it's not even an American show and most of the really big fans are downloading to watch anyway.

There's no end to the nonsense that governs decisions such as how long an episode ought to be, or what format a show should take. You know those comedy shows that have really ill-advised "songs" in them? Think of anything from Not the Nine O'clock News to Smack the Pony - that's because if you have a song in your comedy show you can call it "light entertainment" and get a bigger programming budget. Crazy, but true.
