Jul. 29th, 2004 02:50 pmJohn Edwards has a peculiar voice. I had heard tell that he's an enigmatic speaker - I'd heard the same of Teresa Heinz too - but found that the most engaging aspect of his voice was how it varied erratically in tone. He'd end his underscoring statements with a rising intonation which made me think that he still had something else to say. The best speakers so far have been Mssrs. Clinton and Obama, by far.
So saying that, you could tell Edwards was passionate about what he was saying. He could have done with a bit of guidance with his younger children; they looked tired and seemed to be playing up. He also liked basking in the applause. I don't know what that's got to do with anything political but I suppose spin works because people don't vote just on politics. Appearances are crucial.
Cate Edwards impressed me. She was very eloquent, seemingly down-to-earth. I found all three of the Edwards to be quite contrived though.
The Big Boss tonight! Bring on Kerry.
