I watched Spooks: Code 9 last night. There were highs and lows, and yeah, I'll be watching next week (upward spiral? Fingers crossed).

This morning I'm waiting for In Plain Sight (the finale?) I was hoping the episode would involve a lot of Marshall, especially considering the trailer, but the title suggests otherwise. Unless I have all the names on this show mixed up, which is entirely possible. I've been watching Saving Grace for a year plus now and I still forget characters' names. (Eee! New episode tomorrow!)

Am also waiting for Mad Men to make an appearance. It always takes so long, and I want to see it right! Now!

In a couple of hours I'll be standing behind the till/counter at The Dad's store. Sigh. I don't know, though, because I haven't properly been out of the house in a while, and a change of pace will be nice for a couple of hours. It does mean the middle of my day gets eaten, but I can deal with that today.

Yesterday I wrote letters to all but three of my cousin brothers and their families. It's Raksha Bandhan this weekend coming so I had to get all the rakhis sent out. Normally we send a Very Formal letter out (please tie on behalf of blah blah boringcakes) but this year I decided to write proper letters, which was pretty nice. And I kind of adore my writing paper, so that was a plus. I also wrote a letter to a woman who retired from my primary school this year; she taught me years and years ago, and I always remembered her for her no-nonsense kindness. She used to play the piano and ran the choir. Before now I've only sent her Christmas cards, but I figured a letter was in order because I wanted to be there on her last day, but I had to graduate. The things that come up, eh?

There's an hour's worth of tracks that didn't get scrobbled this morning because I turned the scrobbler off last night and forgot to turn it back on, what. Je suis un MORON.

I Don’t Fear Death
by Sandra Beasley

But what I’m really picturing
is Omaha: field after field

of sorghum crisp to my touch
and one house on a high hill,

sheets on the line. You tell me
everything ceases, that even

our fingernails give up, but
what I really believe is that

we keep growing: infinite corn,
husk yielding to green husk.

I look back on the miles
connecting me to Earth, think

I’d have never worn those shoes.
I slip them off like anything

borrowed. The clouds are thin
and yellow, smelling of

fireworks and salt. In Omaha,
the town votes me Queen of

Everything. You are the slow
dance, the last ring of smoke:

to be held tight, and then only
this colder air between us.
