delga: ([the wire] you ain't even beige.)

Today I am feeling "whatever" because "I haven't decided yet". With thanks! M.

So, I have family in India as I've well-established by this point (y/y?) And because of the size of my family, I have cousins who are older than my parents and cousins who are younger than my nieces and nephews. And today my cousin from India and his wife are coming to our house for no reason known to us, and staying for a couple of days. Hopefully they'll just spend a lot of time talking to The Gran. Their kids aren't coming with them, but if I remember, they're a fair amount older than me, so they're likely married themselves now.

Anyway: stress? A little.

No, really, TORI AMOS for the utter win.

Also, also: fuck, is it ever hot right now. So hard to sleep.

The Wire is gooood. Have now watched the first disc (3 episodes). It's odd because you slide into it quite slowly, but the pace is set up for a long haul. It reminds me of the third season of Murphy's Law except less-BBC, and less dramatic posing. (S3 of Murphy's Law was tragic. I mean, in a good way. But really difficult to watch sometimes. Hardcore.) On that note: GIP! By the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] wliberation.

Mmmmm. Mini muffins!

delga: ([raines] I see dead people.)

So, those people that were supposed to turn up today... didn't. But The Dad is going to pick them up tomorrow. It's a good thing The Gran has been here long enough for my passable Gujarati skills to become a little more than passable. My sentence structure was never an issue but you know that thing that happens when you try to say something in, say, French, and for whatever reason the sound that comes out of your mouth is not only the wrong one but not the one you were aiming for either which way? Well, I have that issue with Gujarati a lot, and normally end up having to stop and find another way to say what needs to be said (because the words will be in my mouth, just reluctant to come out), or say it quietly and hope the people listening to me can gather what the hell it is I'm trying to say. But these people are practically strangers! So I don't really know what the fuck I'm going to do.

I missed a rec on my rec post, so, here you go.

it's already tomorrow in australia (or, win some, lose some, h7, n1) by [livejournal.com profile] amand_r (dead like me) [apocalyptothon]

Ah, breakfast at Der Waffle Haus. If I hadn't already eaten my way through the menu three times I might have been more tempted to order. Then again, we ate pretty much the same thing for breakfast our entire lives, didn't we? We might bitch about leftovers or having meatloaf twice in one month, but dammit, we needed the same cereal every morning.

The narrative voice is so spot on George, I love it. A plague hits; George, Roxie/Roxy (sp?) and Mason get transferred to Plague Division; Crystal turns out to have more up her sleeve than imagined. Excellent fic.

I know, I know, I go through musical-crushes the way your Great Uncle Pete goes through alcohol, but seriously: Tori Amos' Crazy is pretty fucking awesome. So I let crazy take a spin / then I let crazy settle in / kicked off my shoes, shut reason out / he said, "First, let's just unzip your religion down". Also, later lyrics include the phrase paper tigers. I mean, COME ON.

edit: See, I used to hate this song, but I LOVE it now, or, rather, I can see the beauty in portions of it. Renaissance, yo.

MAN. NOSEBLEEDS, WTF. I can't remember when I've ever had nosebleeds. Anyway: GROSS and PLEASE, QUIT ALREADY. I'm not haemophobic but when it's coming from an undetectable source somewhere in your NOSE, that's kind of hardcore weird.
