So, yes, Mamma Mia! I didn't pack until an hour before we left and then we got to the station and had a freak out because my young persons railcard is illegible (the ink has worn so you can't see the expiration date) and my sister plain forgot to bring hers. They didn't check, thankfully, or that would have been frustrating.
Got to King's Cross, took the tube to Piccadilly Circus and located the theatre which is basically opposite The Trocadero on Shaftesbury Avenue. Grabbed the tickets so we wouldn't have to rush in the evening (= excellent plan) and then decided to walk up Regent's Street towards Oxford Street which is where we were supposed to meet everyone. On the way, this happened:
Yeah, so basically, we wandered into London Pride and were so pleased that we decided to stick around for the parade and stand up our cousins, all of whom were slowly congregating in a cafe in John Lewis on the other side of the parade. I do not regret this decision at all. When the armed forces marched past, when the emergency services followed, when the unions were waving their banners, I felt pretty full. It was genuinely amazing. I have a pride flag for my room, too, so, you know. Bonus.
Anyway, met with cousins in John Lewis, tried to do some shopping but had too much crap to lug around so ended up heading for the Travelodge to dump our stuff and get ready for the evening. I went out with The Sister and one of my cousins to buy drinks at the local M&S. Oh yeah.
Headed back to Piccadilly Circus/Shaftesbury Avenue for the show which was basically the loveliest thing. I was worried we weren't going to have great seats, but it's a compact theatre and the seats cascade which meant that even though we were pretty high up, we could see everything really clearly. So: great seats! Sang along to everything, and stood up and danced at the end. Genuinely lovely.
Went out to eat afterwards, then headed back to our rooms to be silly. Am hoping my cousin uploads her photos soon because I think there are a great many lols recorded there. I'm not saying that my eldest cousin wasn't a loudmouth, or that she stopped being patronising at even one point during the whole damn weekend, but the thing on the whole went off without a hitch, and my other girls are amazing and also hilarious, so overall a great time was had. The next day my sister and I were up and ready before everyone else, so we left earlier (which caused a skirmish with the older two, but whatever, they got over it) and then we tried to hang around Oxford Street again, quitting when it turned out that I am an old lady with no feet.
The weather was gorgeous through and through, though, and the Saturday was a lot of fun, so I'm glad we all managed to go. Pictures when they come through, huzz!
