So basically I a) enjoyed it and b) found it to be a bit long.

TWO THINGS stood out for me as being absolutely stellar:

ONE: WILF KNOCKING FOUR TIMES. If I'd been alone, I'd have bawled. The tragedy of it, my gosh;

TWO: I am possibly (probably) head-over-heels in love with Eleven already? Yep. (idk, Ten was never my Doctor. I loved Nine beyond anything despite coming to the show post-Nine.)

Other things: so, um, Martha ditched her fiancé Dr Tom and instead married Mickey? Did RTD forget that there were other black people? (I am TOTALLY BEHIND THIS UNION, btw. Just surprised!) And, Donna: asleep for everything ever, still. AND: SO, LIKE, THAT HAD TO BE ROMANA, RIGHT? RIGHT? RIGHT.

Whatever, show, you are so lolsy! I think this would be terrible for me if I ever took it seriously enough. Things that are probably charming to most fans (The Doctor setting Angsty!Capt. Jack up on a date? The Doctor meeting Rose earlier in her timeline?) were just... sorry, it was lame. And yet I love it because it's so kitchsy marvellous. And I think that a lot of what happened in the episodes was stupidly throwaway (see: Donna; the Gallifreyans; the green people) but it was all redeemed by Wilf knocking gently on the glass. One, two, three, four. Beautiful. Like Peter thrice denying Christ. (Oh man, let me tell you about my relationship to THAT story!) (Some other time.)

Jesus, how the fuck do the Ood even get around?

And's that all I have to say.

edit: I lied. OMG OMG OMG TRAILER!

Your good points are my good points. ♥

I am probably going to write epic amounts of Donna fixits, but I am so ready for Eleven now. :D

The bits you mentioned as being lame were exactly that: lame. But damn it, I wanted at least one person to have a happy ending. I also quite like Russell Tovey, so that worked out quite well for me. (I'm not going to lie, when I recognized who it was, I actually let out a shriek so loud that my dog looked up in alarm).

Martha marrying Mickey still bothers me. I don't know why. It just... does.

Not going to lie, when Wilf knocked four times, I actually let out a howl of anguish. I knew Ten wasn't going to live (contrary to what he might think: damn, Ten, where have you been the last few weeks, it's been all over the news!) but the simple, gentle tragedy of that moment... gosh.

I enjoy the new trailer, although I commented to somebody else that it actually hurts more with Ten having stated that, even though the Doctor will live on, he will still functionally die. (Which: god, that's going to be a weird idea to reconcile). I've seen lots of people panning Matt Smith based on ten seconds of screentime, but the trailer looks promising! Also: hot girl companion who insists on wearing teeny tiny shorts! Count me in.

Lame but DELIGHTFUL! At the same time! Weird.

Uh, because apparently RTD forgot about Dr Tom completely? And every black person in this show is a side line to something else? Sorry; I have race issues.

WILF. KNOCKING. I actually totally said, "Jesus, it's Wilf!" like no-one else had worked that shit out. lols.

THE NEW TRAILER I AM SO IN LOVE. I think I am taking this a lot differently to most people! Like I said above, Ten is not my Doctor. I don't really have a Doctor beyond knowing that I enjoyed Ecclestone's gravitas more than Tennant's teeth. But. Like. I am kind of obsessed with Eleven's skinniness, and the new companion looks so fucking delightful, and and and I WANT IT NOW.

(Being Human is back, what, next week? Omg.)

So is RTD done with this show now?

And my mother thought Eleven was RPattz. I didn't correct her.

Yes! I am kind of thankful. He is kind of wanky!

lols. The hair? I guess? He smiles much more. So delightful to look at when animated and not just a random photograph.

I think it tapped into the part of us that kind of likes it when everybody has nice things and appreciates the neat pairing-off of existing characters.

I just... I think my irritation is based in race issues, as well as my love for Martha which says that her reappearance would've been just as poignant if she hadn't been married to Mickey. Every time we see her, she's bloody married or engaged. This isn't a "sisters doing it for themselves" thing so much as a 'my, that pairing seemed awfully gratuitous' thing. (Then again, I loved Captain Jack/Russell Tovey, which was basically nothing more than RTD's love letter to Tovey himself. So, you know).

(I would write so much fic if I could remember Tovey's episode)

And bless Wilf, you just can't hate him for being the Doctor's death, even though he was his death all along. With any other character I imagine there'd have been a certain amount of backlash, but Wilf is just so gentle...

See, I'm the opposite: hated Ecclestone and his gravitas, loved Tennant and his madness. Tennant is very much my Doctor, but I've got to admit that the wealth of possibility in Eleven is exciting to me - because that's what I love, even when creators kill my favourite characters, the idea of what you can get out of that sudden change. GOD I WANT IT NOWWW. (Spring, did it say? That's not that long to wait).

(It is? I knew it was back early January, but didn't know it'd be that soon. Gosh. EXCITING).

No, there's a whole host of Bad Shit going on in the Martha department but it's wholly depressing and not worth even properly looking at when the showrunners themselves did not give enough of a shit, and most of fandom was hung up on Rose. So. Whatever. I wash my hands of wankery.

(Haha. It's the flying boat/Kylie one? I barely remember anything about anything. I am shit.)

THAT IS SUCH A GREAT IDEA. Like. It's not expressed like that in the show - in the show, Wilf is an end point on which Ten zeroes in, but, Wilf as Ten's personal death? Jesus, that's beautiful.

Hahaha, I love my tragic heroes. Even though. Idk. I could never get behind Ten's emo. Not that it even matters to me any more because I'm not going to sit here and tell you I haven't enjoyed watching the show, you know? I am SO READY for Eleven. It was time. It felt like time.

(Idk, my sister said something? Ugh, I need GOOD THINGS in my life. Also: there was a Yuletide fic where the housies GET A CAT. You HAVE to read it. It's like someone wrote it for you.)

I admit that I'm ignorant to a lot of the racefail in the Martha stuff, but I compensate by being super-attuned to women's issues. C'est la vie. But speaking of Rose, I am genuinely surprised I didn't predict that we'd see Rose again, given what a hard-on RTD has for the Doctor/Rose relationship. Damn, self; must try harder!

(... neither do I! I... I think I remember Russell Tovey's character? Vaguely? I don't know, that was one of the less entertaining episodes, and after The Lazarus Machine I don't even have to watch it to see the Doctor in a tux).

I have numerous issues with the writing for this show, but you've got to admit that, when they get it right, they absolutely nail it. I just keep realizing that they probably planned the "Jesus, it's Wilf!" reveal since they first introduced the "he will knock four times" thing, and boggling a little bit at how neat a writing decision that was. I think if the knocking had been the Master, it would've lacked the impact - because it's Wilf; gentle, human Wilf, it pulls the whole thing back from this epic Time Lord vs. Time Lord thing and gives the Doctor's death a terrible sense of irony. He spent the whole episode thinking it'd be a Time Lord that did him in, and in the end it was a human that precipitated his death. As the Master says, humanity has always been the Doctor's favourite.

(I've read that Yuletide fic! And immediately felt FURIOUS because I WAS GOING TO WRITE EXACTLY THE SAME PREMISE. But it's an amazing little fic, and probably the impetus behind my wish for an actual episode where the household adopt a kitten)
(Also: got your letter! ♥).

I think you make an interesting point that she does seem always paired up with someone, but I actually think that says more for her - that she could still identify as a full-blooded woman because she is equal to the man next to her. She and Mickey are working concurrently. Plus, there is this prevalent idea that a woman is diminished by being in a relationship; that her authority is immediately undermined. But I'm not behind that as an idea at all. Idk. I liked that she was engaged to Dr Tom but it was just something else that was a facet of her humanity, you know? Like: her emotionality was a strength, not a weakness. That's she's now married to Mickey instead is...something else. It bothers me more on the level that something happened with her and Tom to end that engagement than it does in terms of the marriage itself.

(LOL. That episode ends with Tennant meeting Wilf on the streets of London. Jesus.)

And simultaneously, his weakness. But I also think that it's a good thing that it's Wilf and not a Time Lord because it grounds the Doctor. He thinks it's going to be something epic, something that fuels the side of him that is Time Lord Victorious and the universe goes, "um, fuck no," and sits him down on his backside and puts him in his place, relatively speaking. And it's all from a place of love. Of course Ten can't leave Wilf in there, and he knows it. (Lol, my ex-housie and I were up for nearly 2 hours talking about this. She is an EPIC Tennant fan. I mean, one of those fans. Right out there. And it was hysterical and great. Because we barely agree on anything in the show other than the humour and the heartbreak [lol, that's the whole show! No] but we were both yelling down the phone when talking about Wilf. I'd be proud, too.)

(Oh dear! But it is terrible lovely.)

(! Good. Will likely send another shortly seeing as I now have a new sheet of 100 stamps, AND 100 pre-paid envelopes. I am actually a big fan of Royal Mail? I was tempted to make personalised stamps.)

I JUST REALISED WHY THE MARTHA/MICKEY THING SOMETIMES BOTHERS ME.

Mickey used to be obsessed with Rose.

So. Okay, so now I'm getting a bit annoyed. I still think they're a better pair, though, and I also think they both got the better end of the deal. Hmm.

I need fic.

I have not heard any. Though my theory is that Doctor-Donna wanted to help them.
