Today is my friend's birthday and I don't know if she'll be around to see this or not, but I wanted to take a moment to talk about how much I love her, and how much I hope that the world treats her with gentle hands. Girl's a fighter but she's got heart and gives so much to other people that I think sometimes she forgets to keep pieces for herself. Even when she is down she has reached out to me, and even when I am at my most selfish I want only good things for her.

Whilst I'm unwilling to name her here, I hope that in reading this you can think of someone you love, and wish good things for them, too.

Happy birthday, girl. With love.

My day was great, actually. I watched Battlestar, caught up with Burn Notice and The Unit (which I will eventually talk about at great length), and received a belated Christmas present from T.

I thought perhaps I was running through a covers playlist, but no, iTunes is just picking them out by itself. Currently: Cat Power brings a slice of tender to Oasis.

Other things I have to talk about: the ridiculousness of the situation we are in with our house alarm.

delga: ([Random] J'approve!)

I don't remember the order in which I watched these, so I'm going by air date. Likely y'all don't care but it matters to meeee.

Also, I watched a lot of them with The Sister this week which I think changes the way I see things. Mostly because she finds a lot of things funny, and it makes me more sympathetic to the kinds of joke that I would usually stomp all over.

re: Numb3rs. I didn't even finish last week's episode (5x03, Blowback), even though the first act looked good. I just. I think I'll wait for it to air on TV some time next year. Maybe time will make me more sympathetic to it? I don't know. It's a bad sign when you can't even watch the scenes with characters you don't actively dislike. And whilst Nikki Betancourt is fierce, I just don't care about her if she's been set up to be the fall guy, instead of a foil to Don & co. which is what she was originally described as being.

Farewell, show. Farewell, Don's Awful Hair.

I still haven't seen this week's Merlin (worked during the repeat on Sunday, and now I'm waiting for The Mother). Speaking of, it took The Mother a year to get into Northern Lights. A YEAR. Then, last week, she picked it up, finished it, finished The Subtle Knife and started The Amber Spyglass which she's quickly making a dent in. I am a little bit eye-roll-y about the whole thing, but also a little bit triumphant. I KNEW she'd like that damn series.

The Sister is really busy right now which sucks for her, but also for me because I kind of want to marathon Life with her and she (natch) won't let me. That said, The Rents and I watched Criminal Minds, 3x01 last night (the college campus killings; Gideon's dumbass letter voiceover) which was marvellous. And Emily said: When you move around a lot, you get used to being what people want you to be and I thought, oh, Emily.

delga: ([life] that's zen --is it?)

Dear Mad Men, way to be entirely depressing! Which is not to say that I didn't love it, because, well, OBVIOUSLY I did. Jane is entirely boring to me, though; I think it was the casting choice. It was nice to see Hildy, though, whom I adore. Please, show, continue to wreck me. I don't mind at all.

I've yet to see Dexter; am feeling pretty blahface about it, actually. I may have to store up a few episodes and watch them in one go. Even though I liked it last year, I only watched it on time because I was watching with T. And, well, not there any more.

I have new music, eee! Some unreleased Patty Griffin and Seth Lakeman's albums, whoop whoop. Folk at its best. And now: NCIS and Criminal Minds. It is a Good Day.

delga: ([unit] domestic disturbance.)

Later today I might venture to do some real work, or at least some reading, but I'm so woesome about that stuff right now that I have to take a break already. So. My fannish update! No explicit spoilers, so no cuts.

I spent yesterday evening catching up on some of the fandom I'd across the week. This week's Private Practice was really, really good and whilst I have a general fondness for the show, this I the first time I've watched an episode through and through without stopping to pause it half-way. So, huzzah.

Also saw the latest Criminal Minds which was good, but not as good as the previous two episodes; I loved that opening scene in the pens with Reid, Morgan and Prentiss, and I thought that JJ's skirt was cute. I hope you weren't hoping for something substantial.

Life did a good job of expanding on an angst-plot that I thought was going to be bog-standard, but is actually a little more layered; I was more than a little impressed by Shahi's closing performance. The subplots were excellent, and I really wanted to hug Ted/Arkin's character; Lewis and Weigert played off one another beautifully, and I'd love to see more of that. I finally got around to watching the second-half of Women's Murder Club which turned out to be lovely. I wish the plots were stronger, but that was only the third episode, so I'll give it more time yet. Also: for Angie Harmon.

BONES WAS SO GOOD! So funny, and a tiny bit creepy. I feel like episodes like this one epitomise what this show is about, and the vein in which you're supposed to take it - i.e. not at all seriously.

I watched The Unit which was alternately terrible and excellent. A first I thought the plot with the singer was dumb, but it turned out okay (poor Charles; I love his character a lot); I enjoyed Bob's plot for the most part; I LOVED the thing with the bar woman and Hector, because although I find that whole situation horribly pressuring (with the wives and Bar Woman), I find Hector to be very charming. Mostly, I wish Tiffy would get a new fucking plotline, instead of recycling old ones, or just fuck off already because it's beyond boring.

There's new Numb3rs but I still haven't seen last week's episode. This possibly calls for some marathoning tonight, because I have CSI and CSI:NY to watch, too. (Guys, I am irrationally excited about next week's CSI/WaT crossover, regardless of not knowing a thing about the latter post-early-S3.) Also: this week's Supernatural because the basic plot seems interesting, even though I don't have a clue what's going on in the season arc - and I'm quite happy to remain that way, actually, because I think my brain would explode if I tried to fall back into that show.

Yeah, I've decided to drop Atlantis and marathon it over Christmas break instead.

delga: ([numb3rs] malapropism.)

I wasn't going to do one of these, but I happen to have some free time. So. You know. I'm still catching up with three weeks worth of Damages because of the new stuff, but I've finished all of Saving Grace which was made of many brilliant things, and which I'm glad to report there will be more of, huzz. I was watching Chuck but I didn't finish it and now I don't know where it is? Um. Yeah. And I was going to watch K-Ville but I lost that, too. I don't really know. I'm trying to mainline Friday Night Lights because, well, Kyle Chandler, and I've read some good fic. Also, giving Burn Notice another shot. I have all of Mad Men so far, but I haven't seen past episode 4 or 5. I'm still obsessed with the costumes. (And DeWitt's wigs. !)

I have yet to finish Private Practice. So far, so good, though. Have you guys been watching Weeds and/or Californication? The latter continues to engage me for reasons unknown, but the former is SO GOOD. Really. I say this every year so I hope some of you are listeing: watch Weeds. You won't regret it.

I'm in one of those moods where I feel like, if I could just write Helen/Andromache femslash, all will be right with the world. Trust me, I felt more than a little gross typing that out and yet it remains true. Apparently I'm running a fetish for badly-adapted epics because I'm watching Tristan + Isolde. I'm not so desperate to turn to Alexander (the only good thing about that movie was Angelina Jolie and she wasn't in it half as much as se should have been) and I don't have a copy of King Arthur (which filled me with rage but which I also really need to see, like, RIGHT NOW). I feel like I should just go and buy the first season of Xena and get all this need for swashbuckling capers out of my system, except first season Xena isn't terribly tragic and I HAVE REAL, ACTUAL WORK TO BE DOING.

Speaking thereof, if anyone finds anything on jstor regarding child&adult relationships in children's literature, I will be very grateful. If not, I'll have to write about fantasy in children's lit, and that would be less satisfying. Or maybe not. Hmm.

GIP GIP GIP. I hate the plot, I hate the scene, but I've developed a fondness for the way in which the icon turned out so.

edit: I should watch Rome! That fits, right?

delga: ([Random] ghosts' ransom.)

Oh boy. This time last year CBS had renewed just about everything it was airing. This time around? Survivor. What? Not that the shows are really in danger of being cut but still. This is a whole new world of crazy.

This is going to sound weird but even though I’ve seen spec for the finale episodes, I don’t like talking about them. I’ll talk to you about the episodes I’ve seen, but I’m speculation-phobic, so. Yeah.

And now I have to go and do actual work.

delga: ([unit] holding my breath.)

OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS SONG. (How is it that I have yet to see Kal Ho Na Ho?)

Was so productive today, which was new. Avenue had some books I needed which is where I figured out what my question was actually asking me; got there at 10am, got kicked out at 1pm (Avenue opening hours are fucked up). Headed over to Hartley, found more stuff that I needed, got back at 3.30pm. What I need to do now is collect evidence from my two texts (Stein's Melanctha and James' The Aspern Papers) and re-read Eagleton's The Revolt of the Reader so that I can write out a proper plan. The idea is to write half tomorrow (or more, if I can) and then finish on Monday.

The essay topic is actually interesting now that I've decoded it and (sort of) know what I'm doing. I still don't really know how I'm going to answer it but that's what the plan will help with.

Fandom, yay.

Grey's Anatomy, 3x22, 3x23, The Other Side of This Life. )

The Unit, 2x23. )

I have CSI, CSI:NY, Criminal Minds, Bones, Numb3rs and The Black Donnellys to watch. I'll probably watch one of the CSIs or Numb3rs tonight and then shore up fr when the essay is done.

delga: ([ncis] what's up?)

Most random dream of the year: JJ (Criminal Minds) is being hunted by random, not-main-character people from Drive (the ones who come last in the race and have to kill other people; except their numbers are increasing) except she's being saved by Gibbs and treated like she's actually someone from NCIS. That said, I don't remember the rest of the team there and the HQ looked like a high-end coffee shop, and it was either in a huge shopping centre (mall) or an emptied out airport lounge. Other people were being chased down escalators and killed. Yeah. I DON'T KNOW.

It is, however, a lovely morning.

Need to head to the library later today. Will probably leave after midday when The Flatmate has class. Whilst I recognise this to be a less-than-stellar plan, I don't much give a shit.

Loved CSI because I love it when they have quirky episodes. Liked Grey's but wasn't Derek's biggest fan this week. (Why won't my podcast come through?!) Watched the episode of The Unit that I missed - the one with Lissie wanting to date that Officer's son? Yeah. Damn. I thought that episode was much better than the one I saw earlier this week - the one where Mack decides it would be a great idea to empty out the Gerhardt accounts and get wasted? That couple - oiskie. The case was boring though. Who really thought Bob would sell Jonas out?

I need to show you photos of all the paper cranes I've made this weekend. Apparently when I'm bored of everything else, paper folding is helpful. Also, I finally finished that fic for [ profile] numb3rs_het. What I did was take two false starts, stuck them together and added some nonsense at the end. It sort-of works, but it's horrendous. It doesn't do what I wanted it to do. Also, the repetition doesn't come off meaningful. So. Sigh.

Yo, 4.20am yesterday? Fight outside our house. Scared the crap out of me. There was a fight of some sort, one guy was trying to escape, the other ran after him. Huh.

delga: ([ncis] what's up?)

NCIS 4x18. )

My fandom-associated glee with regards to this show has the ability to shock my socks off. Seriously. LOVE IT SO. MUCH. And thus am totally watching this episode again. (Even though there is new CSI: NY. And Criminal Minds! And Bones. But I have priorities and don't have the others yet.)

The Unit. 2x18(?) )

Baby Cousin came here instead of my going to hers. She watched Chicken Run with The Mother and now I have to go babysit some more.

Question: why does LJ auto-format the entries codes to lowercase?

delga: ([Random] waterloo sunset.)

I am having a hard time watching The Unit. I can't believe that I'm the age that I am and yet I still find this stuff awkward to watch. I have to pause the show every two minutes.

Had a dream which eventually turned into a nightmare - it had to do with some sort of design grup work that I completely forgot to hand in or something. It was strange because there were people in it that I haven't seen in a while. When I woke up yesterday, there were two dreams that I remembered but frak me if I can tell you what happened in them. One dream, one nightmare. And my temperature is still up at night, so what the?

I really, really want to write some fic today but I don't think it's going to happen. Maybe the Numb3rs drabbles but nothing else. And to make this post even more useless: GIP.

delga: ([unit] searching for peace.)

The scene when the Israeli pats Mack down? Martini's face is fucking PRICELESS.

I'm going to go and watch the rest of the episode now. But seriously. (Priceless!)

delga: ([Random] secrets.)

Came home last night, did my reading, typed up my seminar notes and called The Sister who then informed me that I'll need to buy a new copy of the James text. Fabulous. T's friend, R, is visiting from Germany so I went downstairs and ate, hung out with N and The Flatmate for a while, then T and R came in and we hung out some more. Came back upstairs, watched Stargate (wondered how people pick episodes that are going to showcase a final season) and then I watched the second of the two The Unit episodes that I had. Very impressed.

Woke at the usual time today, am watching CSI: NY and then Criminal Minds and Bones. I have the Research Skills lecture 1pm with The Flatmate, N and TW, and I have to call someone in a bit to arrange to see their house later today. I don't want to go by myself but I think that I'll have to. Then I have to come back, type up and notes that I have and read more Wind in the Willows.

CSI: NY, 3x12, Silent Night. )

In other news, after beta'ing [ profile] twincy's [ profile] yuletide entry in the wee small hours, and having listened to Nelly Furtado's latest on repeat for most of the day, I started a new fic at 2am. The first section is Megan (Numb3rs), and the second is shaping up to be Sara Sidle (CSI), apparently. I just need to be patient with myself otherwise it will never get written. Right now I'm having issues maintaining style. I could probably do with a comma condom, too...

Went to the cinema with my sister, [ profile] russianvelvet and [ profile] xanitia and had more fun with those three than with the film. It was a good film, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations (which, admittedly, were fairly high). Music was good, Robin William's characters had the best lines. Conversation on the way back to the car was faintly amusing:

[ profile] xanitia: [The mist] is why my mum and dad didn't want me to drive today. Maybe they thought looking at the mist would make me go crazy.
[ profile] delgaserasca: It's coooold - my faaaaaaaace!

Heh. What you need to know about that exchange is that it was less of a 'she said, I said' thing, and more of a 'I was totally groaning in my witch-voice whilst she was being rational' kind of thing. Anyway, my cousin is here tonight, and five is showing season 1 Criminal Minds so I think I'll be watching that with The Sister. Tomorrow the plan was to work, but I think i actually have time off now? Anyway, I'll be making chocolate squares for my aunts for Christmas. Awesome.

delga: ([SGA] still-life.)

So, BSG? WOW. and. )

Also, Army Wives is happening and whilst I think people are picking up on the niche The Unit is exploiting, I'm also a little bit excited because, yo, KIM DELANEY and CATHERINE BELL. I think that so long as (a) it's substantially different from The Unit without (b) being completely DUMB, the series should do just fine.

In other news, I should really finish Ulysses today. And then make Numb3rs icons, especially because I spent two hours last night making c.2,000 screencaps. Srsly. This is why I should cap as I watch.
