delga: ([ncis] I'm not nearly drunk enough.)

spoilers. )

Eventually I will talk about this (I say that every year) but for now enjoy this instead.

delga: ([ncis] tobias.)

"And you people think I'm crazy."

delga: ([ncis] against the grain.)

Oh god. So, I've been trying to catch up with NCIS since Christmas and failing abominably. Mostly because the show hasn't hit my embarrassment buttons quite this hard since season 2. I don't know what's triggering it, but it's freaking me out.

I did manage to watch Bones yesterday, though, so there's a plus.

--

Updating with complex sentences and full paragraphs is proving to be somewhat difficult of late, if only because I have fallen out of the habit or some such nonsense. Work is still monstrously busy and the project I'v been helping with comes to a head this coming Friday. The woman in charge of the thing is mightily intimidating because I am a ground-level coward, and also because she keeps asking me if I've finished tasks which she never set in the first place. Excellent.

I had Tuesday off, which was great, and then Friday I split between the primary and subsidiary offices, so that went smoothly if nothing else. There's not really a lot else for me to do other than the wake-work-sleep cycle, especially now that [livejournal.com profile] xanitia has relocated to The West. I need to speak to The Flatmate about meeting up with her before she leaves for Perth, too, which isn't far off now. I think she finishes work at the end of this week. And then I really need to meet new people because this shit is getting ridiculous.

--

Driving lesson has been pushed to midday today so I have an hour and a half before that particular brand of hell. It's not so bad, just the anticipation makes me ratty, and I'm normally done with the lesson by this time of day.

Later I have to work out what I want to eat/cook because it's Sunday and the rents always eat meat on Sunday. I think this is a mindless tradition and needs to be ex-nayed but I'm just the resident vegetarian so my vote counts for exactly nil. (I am joking; I am not a militant vegetarian who expects her needs to be met.)

--

But I really want to catch up with NCIS! I miss the warm glow it brings to my gut. Also, I'm soon going to run out of Merlin fics to read and I'm going to need the distraction. Stupid, ridiculous boyfaces. STUPID.

delga: (Default)

I wrote very, very little this past year, and what I did write was mostly drabbles. But I did get in a couple of crossovers and the like, so whatever. Year in review!

the fics. )

the break-down. )

--

The end. I wrote much less this year because of work and general lack of inspiration, but I'm not disappointed? I don't know. I thought the lower count would bother me, but it doesn't. It's been a success this year just to talk about the things that I enjoy in fandom, so any fic at all becomes an accomplishment.

delga: ([ncis] Probie-Wan Kenobi.)

I was going to make another yawnsome post about my life shenanigans here but bugger that. I will say these three things, though: our town crier is still lolarious; NCIS catch-up sessions are good for my soul; and I really need to get my hands on as many of Richard Jackson's anthologies as possible.

--

McGee! You look like you've seen a goat!

Never. Gets. Old.

delga: ([ncis] cote de pablo.)

OH MY. !!!!

With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] atlashrugged for bringing these amaaaaazing things to my attention. !!!!

And now to watch this week's episode, yay!

delga: ([spooks] lion-hearted girl.)

The problem with travelling is that I get out of my already-sporadic habit of posting and then garner a reluctance towards starting up again. But anyway, yes, I went to Swansea and had a brilliant time with my cousin, V. Swansea University (and Swansea itself) is on the south coast of Wales so when you look out of V's windows you can see the sea. I arrived on Guy Fawkes' Night* and we went to to the beach where people had started up bonfires and were letting off fireworks. It was an amazing night, and the atmosphere was brilliant.

V and I spent the next couple of days just hanging out - a bit of shopping (the beach completely wrecked what was left of my shoes so I bought some boots, huzz), cooking, talking and watching films. We talked to The Sister on skype because Lancaster Uni had turned all its JCRs into 'chocolate factories' a la Willy Wonka. Chocolate shots, a fountain, cocktails &c. V & I decided we were obviously in the wrong place, heh.

Guy Fawkes tried to kill the king and blow up parliament in the 1600s. Being British, we commemorate this with a level of ambiguity - yay he failed, or yay he tried?

--

Saw Up whilst in Swansea. What a beautiful film. It was both hilarious and dramatic, and I fucking love me some balloons. Hell yeah!

--

My line manager was in Cambs on Tuesday. work rant )

--

Oh, fandom.

Due to being in Swansea I didn't see the Spooks pre-air. I almost forgot that episode 2 was going to air last night. Spooks, 8x02 )

--

Last week's NCIS was utterly delightful. Mike Franks! The Kelly! Surprise guest star at the end! FUCKIN' A. Unfortunately, Criminal Minds was deathly boring, so here's hoping last night's turns out to be better.

Weirdly, Glee has become the show that I most look forward to? This week is an Artie ep and I'm psyched, yo. It's about time; McHale's voice is amazing.

--

Oh gosh, Mad Men! No spoilers but I loved it and laughed happily through the joyful parts. So damn satisfying!

--

EBL is unwell so I'm on the platform at Ely waiting for my connection to Cambridge. I'm so ready for this flipfuck of a week to be over. It's going to depressing trying to get home tonight.

Up eventually: my second ever Yuletide letter, yay!

delga: ([ncis] all smiles.)

The plan, yesterday afternoon, was to watch Shrink and do other stuff but Baby Cousin turned up and that threw the day. It was pretty great! She has two new ducks called Beauty and Lovely (Baby Cousin is a girly girl of the Disney variety) and she's written their names on their undersides the way I do. Truly lol. We spoke to The Sister on skype; took crazy pictures with my webcam; spoke to cousin P; set up NCIS for The Mother on the netbook and then watched some Enchanted (love. that. film.) before she left. Of course, then I couldn't get the netbook back so I ended up watching the Life S1 finale.

After eating I watched the most recent NCIS with The Mother and then left her with NCIS: LA. She was ironing, hence her actually paying attention to things like plot.

--

I thought last week's Mad Men was the finale but apparently there are TWO more episodes? I'm not sure I can take it. This season has felt longer than most - not that I am complaining - and I am tense omigosh.

--

Back to work this morning; I did not sleep well at all. I slept, but it felt like a really light sleep. I'm shattered now, and EBL is going to be here in half an hour. Note to self: pick up new book to take in handbag. (Finished Barricco's Ocean Sea on the train; continue to love the translations of his work, my goodness.)

--

NEW SPOOKS THIS WEEK OMG.

delga: ([ncis] all smiles.)

Who in the US can get me a copy of this? No, seriously. Anyone, please?

delga: ([ncis] cote de pablo.)

The Sister sent me these with the subject "Pics you will love!!!" Reader, I nearly died.

delga: ([life] that's zen --is it?)

HEY GUYS SPOOKS IS BACK NOV 4th!

--

Signs that I am overly invested in NCIS' recurring characters: dreamt of Fornell again. This time he wanted me to buy a train ticket off him? He was SUPER insistent about it. BACK OFF FORNELL.

--

--

Work, blah, blah, in early, out late, blah, blah, FRIDAY OFF.

--

Seriously, though, someone get me a frickin' bagel.

delga: ([spooks] two.)

I did very little today but the high point was watching Spooks 7x05 (WHERE ARE ALLLLL YOUR BAAAALLLLLLS?) with the commentary on. I love this show and my Ros-bias is probably disgusting but whatever. I'm excited about S8 but I'm also fully aware that it's probably not going to match my love for S7. I feel like I would have probably enjoyed all of last year regardless of quality because nothing could be as bad as the Iran arc but now it's almost the reverse: will I hate S8 because S7 was so fucking good? I don't know. I'm fickle. I hope Ros gets to stab someone in the premiere.

--

Tumblr is so great - it's full of NCIS picspams. This one in particular made my day. "Their tyres, not their throats."

SO GREAT.

--

I have nothing to add.

delga: ([ncis] tobias.)

Reasons why you are glad that you are not me: I came out of the shower and suddenly my arms felt like they were being incinerated. Fuck you, dermis, I don't need this bullshit.

--

Things I did this week: installed a scanner at work, fixed the printer, picked up my Threadless hoodies from the post office where they were being held at ransom, organised my leave for Christmas, submitted noms for Yuletide, and read an actual copy of The New Yorker. AWESOME.

But for serious, I did no real work the past two days and I don't even care any more. Tonight I am going to celebrate either by watching the Spooks commentaries on my new discs or watching last week's Defying Gravity.

--

BIG BANG THEORY SEASON 2 HAS SHIPPED. Awwwwww yeah!

--

So, anyway, the one thing that was bugging me about the first three episodes of this season's NCIS was how spoilers of a sort )

But then this week's episode happened and I guess that's sort of resolved? I don't know. I need to watch it again.

Relatedly: I dreamt about Fornell. He bought me a doughnut.

--

Up soon: poems.

delga: ([ncis] little quirk she has.)

Temp locked out of the regional database because, yes, 9am in the absolute best time to reset a system that most people in the organisation use. Way to go, Corporate Overlords!

Have been here since 7.50 but that seems to have become a waste of effort.

--

Other things:

- omg, NCIS was completely worth it

- I'm so behind on Bones that I can't participate in Canada!squee, or whatever we're calling it. I SUCK.

- new Criminal Minds when I get home! Plus, wtf my love of Glee?

--

Royal Mail, wtf re: customs charge? £13? This better not be for the Threadless parcel which you failed to deliver in a timely manner. Colour me unimpressed with your recent shenanigans.

--

System is still in lockdown so I'm going to hit up the servery for a shitty cup of tea. Wish me luck: it's a jungle out here. No. No, it isn't.

delga: ([ncis] brace for contact.)

Why do so many of Russell Howard's gags involve chickens?

--

I am watching NCIS and getting so nervous that I keep having to take a break. I am all of five minutes in, I kid thee not.

--

Waking at 5.30 means I get a lot done in the morning, but it also means by 3pm I'm ready to call it a day. Unfortunately my current anxiety trigger is that the world will end if I don't get out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off. So. I get out of bed when the alarm goes off and right now it goes off at 5.30.

I know what you're thinking: there's an easy solution to this. It's not that straightforward, actually, because the trigger is linked in directly with what the time is, but I need to do something about it either way. Yaaaaaaaawn. Much like this post.

--

HEY HEY MY SPOOKS DVDS TURNED UP YESTERDAY!

delga: ([life] that's zen --is it?)

My current desktop, because I can do that now:

--

Today was not so bad, although I've run out of things to do and it's only Wednesday. Traffic continues to be a bitch but I have convinced Ex-Boss Lady that we should leave earlier tomorrow. Of course this means I am not allowed to sleep through my alarm (see: this morning).

The journey home took two hours due to aforementioned fail fest and also because I had to go to the supermarket in D before coming home. Marks & Spencers does not sell any kind of mozzarella but its shelves are stacked with fourteen thousand different kinds of cheddar, what the hell.

Did come home to a lot of good things though: my train tickets to Newcastle (still figuring out how to get to Swansea), S1 of Life on DVD (which apparently The Sister has introduced The Mother to, lol), and a lovely postcard from [livejournal.com profile] solanpolarn (thank you! Wee pink duckie is both sinister and adorable!) Witness! My goods! Um. So to speak. Picture is not that great due to poor lighting in my room/camera phone/shaky hand but you get the gist.

--

Tonight The Mother is at The Store, The Dad is at Rotary Club, and I am at home with new NCIS and popcorn, fuck yeah!

delga: ([madmen] take what I can get.)

A week ago I made buttercream. I would have made the cupcakes sooner but I was thwarted by issues of time, lack of cases and a lack of margarine. They're fucking awesome though. I'll be off to dish out that buttercream as soon as those long-awaited cakes get cool.

--

Today was weird. I had a lot to do because the seniors are finally off leave and finally doing their jobs. But then this afternoon I somehow got roped into being the office girl who has to deal with the always-breaking printers. I-- I hate this! My afternoon was slayed by the technician's arrival. On the other hand, I got to impress my line manager's boss with my spelling skills. This is unrelated to the printer thing.

The end of lunch was marked by a conversation we often have in my team: the usage rules for 'effect' and 'affect'. Do you know? I do, but if I didn't already I would have learned for certain today.

--

Went into town at lunch time to pick up some things and was accosted by the atheist preacher who had taken up the space previously occupied by electronica spaceman. There were a lot of amateur violinists out on the street today, too, but they weren't together so I don't know what that was about.

--

re: Mad Men, to quote my tweet: DID THAT JUST HAPPEN? Yes. Yes, it did. The show continues to be a favourite of mine and gave out a couple of truly, truly wonderful scenes this week. Goddamn. I need a new icon.

--

I was going to watch Paris, je t'aime last night but it didn't happen. I'm also on the last episode of Leverage which is kind of exciting! Jeri Ryan's sexy librarian thing is hot. Plus: d'aw, Parker. Continue to be competent, crazy and cute! THANKS.

--

OH MY GOD NEW NCIS. I'm not sure I'm ready for it. But I waaaaaaaaant it fuck yeah.

delga: ([raines] I see dead people.)
01. Crazy things that actually happened in Cambridge this past fortnight: a dog was juggling outside M&S; the electronica spaceman was back. Man, this city. I don't know.

02. I watched a lot of TV which is terribly unsurprising. I have skipped through all the things that I find annoying in Glee (which is unfortunately quite a bit) but I do love the musical numbers, and I do like the guy playing Will. Like. A lot.

03. I also watched - and enjoyed - Supernatural, and I hope we see Those Guest Stars again. I have a deep, deep fondness for Jim Weaver and for Titus Welliver, and I wish they'd had a scene together (Deadwood reunion!) Also: apparently the casting directors at Lost and Supernatural know the same agents (lols, Mark Pellegrino. Awesome). But, yeah, whilst the premiere was touch&go for me, I enjoyed this one a lot.

04. The Bones season premiere was completely delightful, and my love for Cam is so immense at this point that I don't really need to talk about it. My love for Caroline has apparently never been expressed before, so: I really love Caroline omg.

04b. Speaking of Bones, have a fic rec:
If you actually mapped out all the morsels of advice that Angela has doled out to Brennan over the years, analyzed them the way you would an author's canon of work, a few recurring themes might emerge: namely, in this order, [1] you (Brennan) want to have sex with Booth; [2] Booth wants to have sex with you; [3] you two are ridiculously perfect for each other in so many ways, whether you realize it or not; [4] you're not actually as failed of a human being as you think you are.

The above is from [livejournal.com profile] daygloparker's fic The Forgotten Dialects of the Heart. She labelled it as "Ten untold stories about love that also have the benefit of being true". I labelled it as "the other side of canon". Which is to say: this isn't just a fic about Brennan and Booth and the whole friction of their relationship. It's a fic about every character that we know and love, and is equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking. There is a section explicitly about Hodgins that is so perfect and a whole section about Cam that will feel like a slap to the face. AMAZING. Go forth and read, and then tell [livejournal.com profile] daygloparker how much you loved it. Because you will.

so, this post was supposed to be quite short? Yeah, I don't know what happened. Other things M talks about: Defying Gravity, Fringe, The Lives of Others, Leverage, shows that are airing next week &c. &c. There are also links to FAB photos so skip this cut AT YOUR PERIL or whatever. )

--

This post was long. There are less trivial things to talk about but I am terrible at those things currently so we'll leave it be for now. It was supposed to be short wtf.
